L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon Version 2013
Lighter than specification, below 60 grams.
The 2013 18K Rose gold version, is limited to 100 pieces. Case size remains at 44.40mm X 35.40mm by 10.90mm height.
Water resistant is rated to 50 metres.
Movement (L.U.C 04.01-L) is designed to look like a suspended sportscar engine block mounted on 'silentbloc' shock absorbers.
The power reserve is like the gasoline indicator (engraved onto the bridges) to represent the remaining energy. At full tank, it holds 60 hours of power.
Hour markers and small-second subdial are engraved (and filled with dark blue inks) beneath the anti-reflective coated cambered sapphire crystal, creating 3-D floating solid-markers.
The tourbillon makes a full turn per minute, which is also the small second indicator.
The gold-hands are coated with SuperLuminova for reading in low light.
Note the camber sapphire crystal at this angle... small details which is important to reduce glare to the minimum for easy reading at any angle.
The side profile of the case is like the fenders of sportscars.
Crown, at 7mm diameter, a good and conducive size for adjustment is made of 18K rose gold.

At the back, a full display of the beautiful hand-wound L.U.C 04.01-L COSC certified 4Hz movement with blue-screws, mirroring the same colour theme as the blue markers on the front dial side.
The dark brown hand-stitched alligator strap is specially designed to look like the seats of the vintage sportscars with rose gold pin buckle.

This is one of those watches which are MUCH better in the real.
I totally changed my mind when seeing it during our IGOTT II in Vegas.

Is palladium truly precious or just expensive?

You pose an interesting question.
Today, palladium is expensive because it has industrial uses in automobile and aircraft industries.
In the past, it was expensive because of search and refining costs but now we have the technology. It is only the supply-demand balance that keeps the price high.
The hardness property is useful for pen nibs and other hard uses. The electronic purposes and smartphone growth may take palladium away from watchmaking.
Apart from the cost rising sufficiently to be considered precious but cheaper than gold, is it truly "precious"? Do jewellers and watchmakers really believe the metal has endearing and sustainable 'value'?
I'm not sure the traditional companies like Chopard, Piaget and Patek Philippe feel that way. From an economic view, it may be the way to go if gold becomes scarcer or more of an investment hedge with the next war.

Palladium can be precious. It is the perception.
I like its colour and weight. Ap has done it before on their Royal Oak models. Beautiful and expensive.
