Hope everyone had a good weekend.
A few days ago, I posted the blue dial variant.
Today, I'm posting some pics of the anthracite grey dial. In person, the dial is a sort of "tobacco grey"... A beautiful color.
Note that the dial is clean. Applied indices, no GP logo. You can see where the LAUREATO FIFTY has taken some of its design inspiration from.
And mine is a little different as it has copper colored sub-dials.
At 40 mm, the GP Laureato-olimpico Limited Edition ref 8017 is a pleasure to wear.
Please note that NOT all the reference 8017 we're LEs. So check the caseback for the LE engraving if you are considering looking for one on C24 and such.
I also took one shot from further back by taking a picture of the reflection in the mirror. Helps give perspective I think.
I'm a big fan of the NEO-VINTAGE era of watch making across various brands. GP in particular had some extremely well made, rare and just darn beautiful pieces come from this period.
Worth checking out IMHO. Still flying low on the mainstream radar as many may not yet understand the huge significance this fairly rare bird carries. Still quite well priced.

The copper colored subdials against the dark grey dial is a great look.

I also like how the polished surfaces of the bezel and pushers play against the brushed surface of the case. Ditto the bracelet brushed / polished interplay.
+1 Not sure why some of these features cant be included in regular production pieces.

I don’t think there’s significant time/cost implications. Instead, brands often seem to keep all of the nicest features for LE pieces. I guess there’s an underlying strategy to this approach.

I think the brands have all kinds of agendas and strategies which sometimes backfire. Many brands have lost toicut with collector opinions as well. Disconnected by using ADs as the go-betweens. And ADs have theirs own agendas.

The Laureato-Olimpico was released in 1996 under the leadership of Gino Macaluso. Very few were made. Supposed to be a total 999 but some reports say less than 600 made in total across three dial colors. So an average of 200 for each dial color. Its a good one to get IMHO. Which dial color is your favorite?
