Morning all,
I am trying to set the building blocks for a long-term watch collection. Something that will keep my active in retirement when it comes!!
So far I have a 8 day manual Panerai and a Rolex Daytona. I would like to add a Speedmaster to this collection - Omega is a brand I have followed from afar, so would be really interested in asking the forum which speedy I should be looking to purchase. My purchases tend to be new / nearly new, rather than vintage.
My own leaning is towards the basic speedmaster professional - but see that there are two models - an open and closed caseback.
As I build a collection it is with the intention of wearing the watches.
Really interested in thoughts and views.
.....The Speedmaster for quality and value. In the photo is a mint Moonwatch (1 year old) which looks almost identical to the one l bought & still have in 1974! The almost new watch is around £3K here in UK.
Best, John.

Great to hear all your views - thank you.
Took the opportunity to try on a Speedmaster Professional (05) in an AD over the weekend.
Really liked the watch - from my limited knowledge of Speedys it does seem a faithful reproduction of the 57 model. Liked the fact that it felt heavy and substantial on the wrist (usually a problem as one of the my other watches is a Panerai) and had a real presence.
Closed caseback and original heselite also works from a historical perspective - but have had a few comments that it can be a scratch magnet?
Looks like it will be the next addition to the collection very soon. Again thanks for all the advice.
Will post some pics when purchased
