Omega

Hi all, I am new posting to the forum.  I was wondering if I could get your input on comparing 2 Omega's.  I currently own the 007 Seamaaster limited edition(the one with 10007 made, and the black face).  I've had tons of problems with it.  It will run fine, then suddenly stop running while it's on my wrist.  It's been to Omega 3 times, and they haven't been able to correct the problem.  It's now been sent back to Jared, and I'm likely going to get a voucher for my purchase.  I'm debating paying extra for the Planet ocean chronograph(the larger one with the black strap and red stitching- sorry don't know the model #).  However, there is also the smaller chronograph that does not have the co-axial movement, but is significantly less.  I've read much about the new movement, but would like your opinion on the differences between the two, and if it's worth the investment to get the new movement.  thanks, Josh

I think the co-axial movement is worth the price difference. However, I more of a 'techy' than a purist or traditionalist. I think this past decade will be seen as 'watch manufacturer's follies' due to all the tourbion movements, etc, that are 'less than ideal' for a wrist watch complication. With so many companies now making at least one in-house movement, the 'top five' houses have lost this unique differentiator. Now they are all working on various enhancements to core movements, such as the 200+ year old swiss escapement, even if it's only in the type of material used for the balance or main spring, etc. Therefore, I think having one of the most successful 'new' escapements from this era will be a great conversation piece in a collection.

So for the Planet Ocean Chronograph, if you can get it on the bracelet, then it may be a better deal for you. Have you tried it on? It is actually quite large compared to the other model you are contemplating. But if you have a larger wrist then it's no problem.

I have tried them both on.  You're right, the one is much larger.  It fits my wrist ok-  there's just something about the way that model "pops" on my wrist.  The Red numbers draw much more attention directly to the watch face.  I also tried on the chronograph with the orange/gold bezel, and it's interesting- that model draws your attention to the bezel and bracelet, and actually pulls your attention away from the face.  Just one subtle difference and it completely changes how it looks on your wrist. 

I am really interested in the co-axial movement.  Plus, the watch just looks beautiful.  I really like the smaller chronograph too- one of the jewelers I spoke to described it as a "workhorse".  Very dependable.  However, like jchandlerhall said, I think having the co-axial movement may be worth the difference down the road.
