i've recently become interested in getting a white dialled speedmaster as i dont have any properly white dialled watches and either a panda or full white dial speedmaster would suit me well. this has made me look at the 'Speedmaster reduced automatic' with the same subdial lay out as a moonwatch (tri compax). it is much my preferred model as the other reduced auto model has a Valjoux 7750 inside and i have plenty of those.
i've not found out too much about the movement other than its an ETA base calibre with a chrono module on top giving a total of 45 jewels.
the thing i have noticed about the tri compax layout is something we dont normally look at and thats the position of the constant seconds subdial. on this movement the constant seconds are at 3 oclock. now that is EXTREMELY UNUSUAL. i dont recall another Omega with that layout that has the seconds at 3 oclock and i cant recall any other brand that has the second at 3. every chrono i've seen seems to have the seconds at 9 oclock.
firstly, am i right and is this an anomaly found only in this movement and secondly, why is this movement different.
i'd be very interested to see some other examples of tri compax dials with seconds at 3.
(Bill if you feel this should be moved to the home page so everyone can join in feel free to do so.)
watch this space, i havent found a white dial reduced yet, but i'm looking.

My Mille Miglia has the seconds at 3.
Must be a feature of D-D chrono modules.

i appreciate Nilo has said they are 'unsubstantiated', but i'd like to know if they are true before i buy a watch for its looks.
having read things on the interweb today there are a lot of people defaming the watch saying 'easy to buy and hard to sell', but i havent encountered anyone who has actually said 'my 1140 calibre broke' or 'i had to have a new chrono module' etc.
i have found a couple of nice pieces. an all white dial with black bezel from the 90's, a 2006 all white Torino olympic model with same movement (i assume) and finally a white panda dial with date at 4 oclock with the 3304 movement (said to be a VJ 7753). i know people may well say that the date model is just a Paul Newman knock off, but i dont care.
all in all i prefer the all white dial, but i'm not going to buy a watch with proven problems.

i still havent bought a white dialled speedy as i got a bit sidetracked the other day when i say a 1964 Droz super compressor for sale on another forum and that was one that just had to join the clan. you dont see them very often so you dont pass them up for a watch you can find several of every day of the week.
i may get it before the end of the month though
