the one I intend to bid on is the auto. It has a black dial. Interesting you went for the leather strap. I was thinking mesh, but the black leather looks great. Do you mind me asking where you found the watch? I can't imagine there being more than a few dozen out there which is what attracts me. Thank you for the pm. Much appreciated ;-)

Mine is automatic, with a cal. 1012, there were also the manual version with a cal. 1030. In the link i PM you i can read about the 2 versions.

Mine came without bracelet, and it is an aftermarked strap i use.

I found mine in Denmark where i live. Mine was the second i have seen for sale in Denmark.

I got mine very cheap because the seller didnt knew what it was, and tought it was defect because of a plastic caseholder that was blocking a gear.

We are devious people. I am also hoping to get it relatively cheap at the end of the auction. For me it's a symbolic piece. This was a time when Omega and the other great Swiss marques were fighting for their lives against the quartz revolution. The attempt by the Belgian agent to revive a dead line shows how desperate they must have been. Tusend takk.

. . . but not rare, in my opinion.  I'm with Graham: it's an uncommon variety, but not especially noteworthy either mechanically or historically.  I like this period of Omega's history, and so do many others, but the shaped cases that define the era aren't everyone's cup of tea. 

It would be a nice addition to an Omega collection, but I wouldn't view it as an investment, nor would I divert marginal funds from a more desirable item (like a Connie or SM) to obtain this one.

I really appreciate the feedback, and agree it's not on a par with a connie, let alone a nice speedy. I'm not a dealer, so I don't have to worry about immediate profitability. I just like the idea of having something most other collectors won't. That said I'm not going to go mad with my bid. A four figure sum would be off limits for me in this case. I don't use the big auction site much, but as it stands I can't see bids going that high. Cheers for the feedback and advice. Matty

I find fleabay a good site as a lot of people dont know what they have and that may be the case in this watch. A lot of people may not know what it is so are avoiding it.
I wish you luck as it will be a nice piece to own.

Collecting has nothing to do with investment. We pay what we think is fair bearing in mind how much we want something regardless of its actual value.
If you want it and can afford if we get it.

Yes, its an uncommon piece, but at the end of the day it is just a C cased seamaster with 'ranchero' on the dial so in my opinion not so desirable, certainly not to me anyway. A re edition is never going to be as desirable as an original and the original Ranchero is a much more desirable piece. Having said that and having owned an original Ranchero, that is just a 30mm handwind made for the US market with an american style name on the dial and a unique caseback. Perhaps i am underplaying it a bit, but its not like its an original Railmaster with the heavily protected anti magnetic movement designed especially for engineers like the milgauss. I've seen one for sale on a big website for a long long time and its possible this is the same one. If so that is a good negotiating tool, but i wouldnt pay more that i would for a seamaster. If you want rare then you need a seamaster deville kleerback

Thanks for that. I agree there is nothing unique about the watch apart from it's rebranding. I don't see it as a ranchero re-issue. More as a quirk in Omega's history. I do believe it has a premium value, but the trick in these cases is establishing what that premium is. That's why I really appreciate different points of view like the one you were kind enough to provide.

As for my tone with the other poster, I was not irritated by his ignorance on the subject matter or his lack of knowledge. We all have stuff to learn which is why this is such a wonderful hobby. What bothered me was his tone and the clumsy attempt to make a joke of my genuine question. People without wit should refrain from that.

As he is an established member, I'm not and everyone else here has been fantastically helpful I will apologise for putting him in his place.
