Team,

I'm not a "vintage" lover (some day I need to consolidate those considerations on a post) but some watches are "to die for".

Here is one, that belongs to my hairy friend Mr. A.

We share the same watchmaker and I remember seeing this watch there (shame on me, I didn't took any movement or case back pic).

Long story short, here are the pics, that explains much more than I can write:




The end of winter light was far from optimal. I did my best with my Canon EOS M.




With a heavy post processing, to show better the dial complexity.




Mr. A. was with another vintage, another beauty.

I will try to process those pictures and post (not here, is not an Omega).

This looks like to be a ref 2077 screw back chrono which is a sought after piece.

But I am very much confident that the watch did not leave the factory with this dial.

Firstly there are no hour marks - this kind of dial was used on watches with bezels which have the numbers engraved like the officers chrono - compare the replica!

Secondly the space from the outer scale to the rim is much too wide.

You have sharp eyes. 

I was so focused on the dial and hands that I didn't not paid attention to the missing hour marks. 

Vintage watches (and anything vintage) always live on muddy waters. 

Experts here, like you, are the main safeguard to any watch collector.

I am not convinced that this is a re-dial - it might be original, also the Omega logo does not look weird to me...


I think the dial has it´s origin from a different watch with much wider bezel and engraved numbers on the bezel.

There was a so called officer´s chronograph in the 40ies  which was re-edited in a limited edition some years ago

. . . then than now, Erich.  The Ω symbol on the watch in question seems relatively thick, and consistently so, compared to others.
