I have found myself interested in floor globes recently and am now considering one for my home office. There are many options (illuminated, non-illuminated, antique ocean, blue ocean, etc.). I was initially interested in getting one with a diameter of 32" until I saw the prices. I have now scaled back my expectations to a 16" globe. Do any fellow Purists also share an interest in floor globes? If so, what do you have?

Have often thought these were one of the coolest things to have, but the term threw me off. (Was trying to picture some sort of floor lighting 0
Grew up with a table globe and think that every house with kids should have one off these.
It puts the world into perspective.

My father gave me his floor globe that he purchased in the 1970's, it was produced in the 1950's.  It is a great conversation piece, the world has changed quite a bit since this one was created.  Will post some pictures tomorrow.

A dear (now departed) relative had a magnificent globe which featured the ancient maritime map (much like the maps on the dial of the VC Mercator - so it would never date!) and which was secretly hinged at the Equator: when you lifted back the Northern Hemisphere it revealed a small bar (glasses, decanters, soda syphon) inside. Practical, stealthy and very stylish. Doubtless they are still  to be found somewhere.

...of booze, Pplater!  Even better?  If the inside of the floor globe could hold ice or serve as a chiller for vodka, champagne, etc.  Maybe I'm just motivated to have all furniture be refrigerated due to the HOT temperatures in LA today!  A freezing cold glass of limoncello sounds good right about now...
