Essential. Original. Unmistakable. The Senator Chronograph XL is a superb example of the fine art of mechanical watchmaking from Glashϋtte Original. Unpretentious and understated, its classic elegance speaks for itself - and for the 165 years of German watchmaking tradition, craftsmanship and experience that lie behind it.

This new version of the Senator Chronograph XL features a German silver dial with luminous lance-shaped white gold central hour and minute hands, a central stop seconds hand and nicely balanced black 30-minute and small seconds counters set within a large, 44 mm stainless steel case.

A black tachometric scale on the German silver rehaut surrounding the dial flanks the fine black minute ring and applied German silver hour markers. The stainless steel case, crown and pushers offer contrasting polished and satin-brushed surfaces.

The Senator Chronograph XL is driven by the Glashütte Original Caliber 39-34, a precise automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve. In keeping with its quintessentially original character, this caliber offers characteristic Glashütte Original design features, easily visible through a sapphire crystal case back.

Among these are the three-quarter plate, a swan-neck fine adjustment, Glashütte ribbing and double sunburst decoration, along with a skeletonized rotor fitted with an oscillating weight in 21-carat gold. The Senator Chronograph XL’s integrated strap lugs hold a finely worked black Louisiana alligator strap.

The beauty of the PanoInverse XL is evident at first glance—screw-mounted gold chatons, each fixed with three white screws to the galvanized black three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing; applied white gold Arabic numerals and indexes and white gold hands; an elegant power reserve indicator and, above all, the exceptional duplex swan-neck fine adjustment. The off-center positioning of the PanoInverse XL dial gives the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment pride of place, allowing the connoisseur of fine mechanical watches to examine the element, which enables an extraordinarily precise adjustment of the movement’s beat and rate.

It was the evident beauty of this perfectly finished functional element that inspired the watchmakers to redesign the movement in such a way as to place ‘the butterfly’—as the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment is sometimes called—at the center of attention on the dial. The revelation of inner beauty results from the inversion of elements normally visible only through a sapphire crystal case back. This ambitious undertaking required the creation of new components and a substantial reworking of existing components and subgroups. All three plates and the wheel-pinion subgroups for the movement and power reserve were reworked to fit new proportions.

This new Combo is definitely convincing, to me.

The only " little " thing which made me stay away was the color used for the Time.

Now, in this combination, it is defintely a winner.

I read your opinion below, and I understand your point of view, the fact that first G.O releases the PanoInverse in WG or RG, and that now, it can look a bit weird to go down with a SS version.

But honestly, when I see the outcome, I'm really convinced, as it is a atrong and beautiful watch, with a stunnning combination of colors.

A kind of dark but irresistible appeal!

Now, if G.O would have relaeased exactly the same watch in platinum, I would have been pleased, but it won't change the love I feel for this SS piece, honestly.

I think it will be my 2d G.O.

I had a chance to play with the panoinverse in rose gold at the end of the year and although it is fantastic to look at in the metal, I think the use of a black three-quarter plate on the steel version works a lot better.

Fantastic!  I have handled the WG piece several times and the dial just does not work for my eye.  I was all set for the SS Lunar XL grey dial, but this has slid past it on my GO wishlist.

this comes along,I need to digest it though.Undoubtly an eye catching watch.Its colour combination wins and definetely on a lot of people wish list.

Nevertheless a SS move from GO on the PI leaves me a bit cold.If,If it was born on a SS case to start with I'll accept the change to a different metal(even though not a big fan of re stylings).But in some way It is losing some of its appeal ,its a bit diminishing.I understand that we need to appreciate the movement and what it stands for,I understand that the horological virtues are not diminished in any way by caseing it in SS ,but..but..I don t know,I would still opt for the WG.

Lets say that the PI has lost some exclusivity to me....If for istance this version was in WG or PT I'll jump on it in a heartbeat and place an order.

I can clearly see GO effort to propose a lot of SS model this year,obviously a good measure in tough selling times.I also welcome SS cases as i love SS but..but  I accept it only when there is a clear intention to case a particular watch in SS(I love for example Habrings use of SS for their tourbillon,or i'd love to see a SS Lange).

I personally think that it is dangerous to move this direction(ie using cheaper cases on existing models),it is dangerous because whilst in one hand they can attract more customers to approach the brand on the other hand they can disillusion many others,and in the meantime lose some charm and exclusivity.

This is what in my opinion sets GO and Lange apart.

Sorry but even though a GO lover I do not approve this politic.

A decision to offer the same exquisite movement in steel as previously offered in precious metal is an indication of a complete lack of pretension, in my humble opinion. It's precisely their willingness to offer creations of high horology to the less financially advantaged that impresses me. Attainability should be as valued as exclusivity . . . cordially, Art

if I owned a Pi already I would be a bit upset of such a winning combo on a cheaper watch.....don t you think?.I love the PI it is my fav GO and probably soon with me but now I MUST wait to see this in metal.......as you say..confusingly,Mo.

I really like this!! A very strong and innovative combination of young and sporty colours and traditional watchmaking values with the duplex swan neck, engravings, chatons etc. Perfect IMO!

A few questions to those of you who have seen it live (or maybe more pics than me): It looks to me as if it has brushed case sides - is this right? (please say yes ). Is the backside (front really) of the movement also blackened?

This is a German made watch, even MORE german than Lange if i dare say!

And btw, it's not ONLY platinum for me mon ami! I love titan and do have SS as well!

Don't have to be LE, i have heaps of non-LE!

And case size, don't forget, anything equal to or above 40mm! This aint no Panerai!
