i'm writing to see if anyone else has had similar experience. i've had my sport evo for a little over a year, and the trieste strap has started to develop cracks in it. i don't wear it every day as i regularly rotate my watches. so i'm a little suprised, but maybe this is to be expected or is considered normal? i think with an alligator strap that's worn a lot and exposed to things like water, i might expect to see cracks develop within a year, but i thought the trieste would be far more durable.
I do not think cracks are to be expected after one year.

Hi Chris,
could you maybe post a picture of the damage? It would make it easier to say something reasonable. In general one would not expect the strap to develop cracks after one year. I would not even expect so if the watch was worn regularly or under especially dry or damp conditions. That is why you buy a
sports watch after all. (Diving/Swimming excluded; there is the rubber strap for that kind of activity.). I assume that you did not expose the strap to extreme conditions like chemical influences or similar.
I have a PanoMaticReserve XL with the Trieste strap. I bought it 13 months ago and the strap does not show any sign of wear. Please note that I don’t use it everyday because I use four different GO randomly.
i've been away for a while, so i apologize for the delay. the strap basically looks brand new except for this crack. anyway, this thing is not exposed to anything harsh and i have not even put it in water. i save the rugged stuff for my beloved omegas.
I've had a Sport Evo for exactly a year (8/8/09) and I don't wear the watch everyday (maybe 60 days total in the last year). I have had the trieste strap separate between the black trieste fabric and the red woven lining. I contacted my AD and they said that the strap wasn't covered by the warranty. This is very disconcerting as the watch has been babied and handled with kid gloves.
i think the irony here is that the strap is supposed to be more durable than a regular leather strap, as far as i understand. on the other hand, perhaps we are just two outliers in an otherwise solid performing strap.
I brought the watch to my AD and though the strap wasn't under warranty they repaired it. They did a great job (you would never know it was repaired) and didn't charge me. As I said before, the strap had separated between the top black fabric and the red backing. The stitching is only for decoration and does not go all the way through. The watchmaker at the dealer was surprised at this but said he'd never seen one separate before (they are located in Los Angeles and do a pretty brisk business).
I did purchase the rubber strap as a backup. I wasn't sure I'd like it at first but now that I have it on, I think I like it as much as the trieste.
As someone who is giving serious consideration to purchasing this strap for my Sport Evo GMT, I have to say that I'm not encouraged by this thread. GO isn't exactly giving this strap away, you know, so I find it sort of disappointing to hear that they won't stand behind it.
Anyway, being the fool who is easily parted with his money, I'll probably still slide by Tourbilon on Wall Street one of these days and put down my hard-earned cash, but I'm not going to feel as good about it as I normally would.
