Hi All,

 

I am yet to have a GO in my collection, although I have come close on a couple of occasions (Senator Sixties and Panomatic Moonphase). Art kindly allowed me wear the Senator Chronometer he has under review for a few (too short) minutes and I noticed the length of the strap was excessive for my 17.5cm (7inch) wrist.

 

I recall previous comments on strap lengths and the fact that GO offer different lengths.

 

For those buying new (or used) watches, what straps are routinely provided with GO watches? What other lengths are available and are they marked in any way on the strap (eg. “Standard”, “Short”)?

 

Do GO bracelets have the same issues?

I believe all pieces come with the 'XL' straps by default, which are about 4.75" and 3.5" in length on the longer and shorter ends respectively. AD should be able to replace them with shorter straps when requested.

The bracelets do not have such issues as they'll all fit from 6" to 8" wrist depending on the number of links attached.

. . . as every one of mine had to be adjusted or replaced, and I've heard the same tale from many others.  The catalog lists a variety of available sizes:

S(hort)=75 mm x 105 mm

N(ormal)=82 mm x 115 mm

L(ong)=87 mm x 125 mm

I'll measure the straps that came with the Senator Sixties to be certain, but I think they're normal length; unfortunately, the shortest hole didn't provide an optimal fit . . .

. . . for a fit that wouldn't constantly slip.  The downside of modification was the unsightly over-wrap, so I was compelled to source another. 

G O's current bracelets are flexible and can be adjusted by removing links and setting the buckle; I've never owned one, but those that I've tried were capable of being tailored to my wrist.

Bottom line: if your wrist is more slender than average, insist on a short strap before taking delivery of your new G O, or consider a bracelet . . . cordially, Art

Are the GO straps marked L, N and S to identify them, or do I have to ask for measurements?

Do GO watches come standard with the Long strap and so any deviation from that has to be specified?

I measured some other OEM straps I had to hand and they confirm that the GO N or S straps are the better option:

Journe: 105 and 76mm
Breguet: 113 and 73mm
JLC: 117 and 77mm

The 38mm Journe,, by-the-way, is the best fit for me. As I have said before, it's like that watch was made for my wrist!

. . . and I just measured the straps that came with the Senator Sixties: 120 mm x 80 mm, so there's variation between samples, too. Most of my short straps are either 105 mm x 75 mm or 100 mm x 80 mm. Remarkable that a 15 mm difference is all it takes to make a strap intolerably long . . . cordially, Art

... to seeing the new steel Panoinverse.

I was underwhelmed with the original gold model in the metal. And I have the La Tradition, so my first GO will probably be  . . . something else.

all the straps seem to be extremely too long since I can't even use the 1st hole on the strap.  So either the average German has a much larger wrist than mine, or GO design team needs to make "normal" length watch straps much shorter.  I think it's the latter!

The latter is the case, i.e. GO´s straps are way too long. I also had to fit in additional holes to have it snugly fitted to my wrist.

As the average wrist circumference of Germans is concerned, this will be larger than that of the average Asian customer, but I can assure you there are no giants loose in our lines of latitude !
Regarding the increasing size of GO´s cases, the strap length propably simply follows them?

. . . has much to do with the common perception that G O's tend to be delivered with overly long straps.  All of mine, none of which are larger models, came originally with straps that either had to be replaced or modified. 

At least they're consistent ;-) . . .

My remark was meant more in a funny than in a realistic way .

My experience with different GO models over the last years is - in contrast to yours, obviously! - limited to my single GO watch, so it´s by no means meaningful.
