the first watch that went into production in1938 and thats why it is limited to 1938 pieces.

even before the introduction of the Fiddy in 2002. This was mainly due to the unobtainable cult classic - the PAM 21. Historic-wise the 21 was the most significant reproduction of the vintage Panerai and many had wished it in a steel case. While the 232 lacks the royalty status of the 21 (vintage Rolex movement) it is certainly one of the most important replicas of the vintage times together with the 249, 203, 127 and 217.
Ever since the introduction of the Fiddy, a 'Fiddy base' was in the air. I have no doubt that we will eventually see one but Panerai is in no hurry, they may pull out this trump card when the timing is right.

that will be the dream panerai to get if they ever introduce a fiddy base in SS.....
let's wait and see then...=)
The 232 is just one of the few very exciting Vendome Watches, with the 249, the 190, the 21, the 127/ 217, and some very few others...
Thi is a quite good reproduction of the 3646 Vintage Rad...
The funny thing is that at the beginning, the 232 was not that hot!!!
Still les hot than a Cali, but a very pleasant and serious watch, indeed.
If you can get one, jump on it.
As for a Luminor Base 47mm, I believe that one of these days, Panerai will launch it...
The sooner, the better.
I'm just waiting for it to end my panerai collection.
Best.
