Officine Panerai

Hi,

I have been observing, reading, and learning via comments and thoughts on Panerais off and on for around a year now (mostly through this fantastic website).  I currently own an Omega Seamaster PO which I wear almost everyday and a Patek Phillipe Golden Ellipse (which I maybe wear four times a year).  I was itching to add a new watch to my collection and to cut a long story short; I decided that it had to be a Radiomir.  However; over the course of time I set my heart on the PAM 210 for its unequivocal grace and simplicity.  This is where my dilemma begins...I reside in India, where it impossible to find the right wristwatch with ease.  I recently located a PAM 210 in the north of the country and the AD was willing to sell it to me for a fantastic price (luckily he didn't adjust it for the rise in $); but the issue is that I don't trust the courier services here and don't know whether I would get my piece in the right state (it would be hell to try and argue with the AD for any damages etc).  Today; I got a call from my local dealer stating that he had the PAM 183 in stock and was willing to sell it to me for a tiny fraction over the 210's price which was already much cheaper than the current going rates.

What are your thoughts? Should I risk getting the 210 or should I pay $150 more and snatch the 183 from my local AD? Any thoughts or experiences on either model will also be much appreciated.

with the 183 is really nice, both have the sandwich dial, which is incredible the issue is if you like the 9 o´clock seg but I will be more safe it pick in it up from your local AD and also for service or any problem.

Let me give you a good advise...You're inl ove with the 210, but your next Dealer offers you a 183?

No way!

You will always have in your mind the 210 while getting the 183...

Take your time, the 210 are not that difficult to find, and get the right watch ,the one you love, you want, not an " Erzatz "!

The 210 is a wonderful simple and affordable watch , faithfull to the Spirit of the brand.

if the 210 turned you on, hunt with patience, otherwise you will keep on thinking about it eventhough you have the 183 on your wrist. Good luck and welcome!

...and the PAM210, the Base model with it's simplicity is to die for.
I'm sure Bonhams auction in HK next week will make sure the PAM210 (#1 of the 1st year) gets to you safely if you care to bid!!!!!

.....is it worth flying North to the AD to pick up the 210????

Notwithstanding your time restraints, I would imagine that you might get a good price for a domestic flight.

I do agree, however, that you should go with your first love, plus, the 210 dial is so so clean!!!!!

So... I managed to get the AD to drive down to my place with the 183 and for better or worse my wife happened to be hovering around.  She put it on her wrist, took off the tag on the strap and yanked the plastic that covers the crystal and refused to give it back to him or I.  So really I wasn't left with much choice; it's been almost four hours now and I still haven't been able to put it on my wrist. 

I agree with most of you though; I will continue to admire the 210 or perhaps that craving may eventually drive me to the 232. For now, however, I (she) am finally a proud owner of an Officine Panerai.

Now you have all the excuse to get the 232? 

I was in a similar predicament a few months ago. If you can not afford both, I would go for the one you really like.

but the fact you are unsure of courier would make me lean towards the local piece regardless... better to be safe than sorry...

best of luck with the purchase, please post pictures when you get it.. regardless 210 or 183, both great choices.. radiomir case is my favorite of the panerai cases.

... i prefer safe sex too ... so with a 183 you can't go wrong ...

Take a coin out, 183 for Head, 210 for Tail. You will wish for the result in your heart. The toss the coin, and then no need to look at the result. You will know which one you want. It's all in your heart.

Of course, we also need to think clearly, as long as it is a calculative risk, worth to try, otherwise, just pass.

My suggesting is follow your heart, otherwise you will keep thinking of the 210.

Go where your affection leads you..  I am sure the courier service would not stay in business with the particular AD if deliveries were often mishandled?

I thought that I would have been disappointed with the loss of not having the 210 but I'm surprised at the satisfaction the 183 has given me.  Perhaps it was the strap and its colour that had originally turned me off but regardless I don't regret the purchase one bit.   Will post pics soon.

Unfortunately; the situation in Mumbai has taken away some of the joy that a new addition brings. I hope that if you guys have any family and/or friends here; they are safe.
