to make such a comment about a GTG in Shanghai. We all know about the problem concerning fake products coming out of China and other countries and it's not something we condone. This is due to unscrupulous individuals who exploit the highly skilled and cheap labour offered by these countries to benefit themselves.
Why this is continuing boils down to a simple fact : the huge demand for these products, as some perceive them to be well made and good value at a fraction of the cost of the genuine product.
Who are these buyers who encourage and support this trade? If you have visited these establishments that sell these fake products in China and even on some online sites, you will find mainly overseas tourists/buyers who may or may not consider the implications of purchasing such a product. To them it may be a cheap souvenir or something that they may pass off as the real thing in their home country.
The Chinese people in general have a penchant for name brands products and most would not be seen dead in a fake. Many high end consumer products would be in dire straights if not for the appetite and high spending power of this nation of 1.3 billion. In HK,as in other parts of the world the Chinese consumer, especially in the high end market has been the steadying factor since the financial tsunami. Whilst others have held back ,they continue to support and maintain the health of the luxury sector. This is a known fact and this is why many businesses and countries are making a tremendous effort to get a slice of this giant pie.
So to imply that a Panerai GTG in Shanghai has fake watches is an injustice and an insult to those present. It also shows the naivety of the poster and IMO an apology is in order.

kudos to Dr Ming and others...
Seriously.
I mean I know them by reputation...
And I can seriously tell that they are honorable guys.
Some of them are even friends.
So I imagine how much they can be injuried by such accusations.
Ben, you already got it, my answer is not addressed to you...
Best,
Nicolas
there's no fake watch in this SHANGHAI GTG.
...this great GTG happened in Shanghai, PRC, doesn't necessarily mean that fakes were bound to be present on the floor. Yes, being a person of Chinese heritage, I cannot deny (nor disprove) the allegation that the PRC is notorious for producing counterfeit products, however, simply linking this allegation to the fact that this Panerai GTG happened in Shanghai, so there must be fakes present is simply an illogical and insulting conclusion to anyone, not just the folks who attended this event. If one has an allegation to make, it's suggested that one has at least some form of evidence to prove it which stands up to the investigation of the moderators, otherwise one will be shot down very easily.
As the above had mentioned, we here are civil.
Great GTG by the way, certainly an eye-opener
Thanks for sharing them again
