A very simple math question

I trust all of you are having a great start to the week! It's only 39 days left to the year, and boy has this year had it's ups and downs for me, in my business and life.
Now, i'd like to challenge you all to a very simple math question, a la Panerai!
First things first though, there is no prize for the winner, this is more of a fun-share with all my dearest Paneristi Brothers and Sisters!
Let's just participate for the sake of a marque whose watches are truly more than just a watch!

What is the answer to the following formula?

?
What do you get from the above-mentioned addition?

Correct, if Stephen spoke about Refs, which I believe.
If he's spoke about production nmubers, he'd mention the Refs...

12-49 + 9-59=22-08 Normal math by hundreds
or
12:49 + 9:59=22 hours and 49 minutes Calculated using clock time where 60 equals 1 hour
