Officine Panerai

Hi Panerai lover, I come across 2 offers a 127 and 217, similar condition with a 2.5k difference in price. I am not particular married to 127 or 217 but their 47mm 1950 cases and gold hands are calling me everyday, that's why i am now selling my 233 for one of them!
Is there any particular reason that 127 seems more sought after than 217?
(I thought lefty and 217's lower production run should make it more collectable.)
Do they carry the same investment value and resales potentials?
I think this question has been asked before, and will be asked by someone else again...and I just appreciate any subjective and objective opinions.

PAM 127 was… the first 47mm and had tremendous success amongst Panerai collector, it was a bit like owning something Vintage.  PAM 217 came later, you are right lefty usually are more sought after, but I believe that despite the Marina Militare Dial, it is not as popular as PAM 127 because Panerai releases lefties every so too often, and let’s not forget much more wear their watches on their left wrist.

Now are you sure you want to rid that PAM 233 for one of the above.  Relax, be patient, something else will turn up and you will not have to part with that great functional piece that I found the PAM 233 to be.

I have 233 and lots ot time thought of pulling a trigger for 127 but just can't justify that price.For that money will rather go for some T-dial.pre A or 36 or 40.

Also was hoping that this year was the year for 47 luminor because 150 birtday of Panerai but hope one thay that something similar will come...

You should try on both if you are only getting one as you have been wearing your 233 which has the crown guard on the right, you may take a while to warm up with the crown guard on the left.

Don't be swayed by comments, buy what you really like and you will enjoy it more.

doesn't make the model more "collectible" or "desirable".  You also need to figure in demand for that specific model.

There are many who don't like Destro's.  Futhermore, I find the PAM217 dial to less attractive than the PAM127.  It's just a minor difference in the dials but it makes a world of difference for me.

I would suggest keeping the PAM233 and not paying the added premium for the PAM127 or PAM217 since you're not married to either of them.  Since you primarily want a 47mm 1950 with gold hands, I'd just wait until Panerai releases a PAM127 base (hopefully with gold hands), which is something they probably will do in the near future, or some other future 47mm 1950 model w/ gold hands.

spends more wrist time, there is something else about the 127 that sings to me.

Both are great replicas that have come onto their own.

The almost imperceptible details on the 217 make it not nearly as good as the 127. The font on the Marina Militare is a bit thicker, creamier and off from the vintage idea it emulates. Not by much, but just enough that it is perceptible to the eye. Somehow too, the way the dial space looks doesn't work, it is a 3 liner, and not a 4 liner. Lastly, the decoration on the movement is the more simplistic, less visually appealing type, vs the PaneraiPanerai engraving on the 127.

The 127 just works. Look at the photo from my friend Aurelio to see what I mean. If anything I would have done without the 1950, however it has grown on me to represent the idea that it is a homage replica that has come onto its own.



So perhaps this opinion answers your question.

As for the 1950 Base, yes keep on waiting and dreaming, every year for the past 4 years and nothing. Do you have this type of patience? Good for you then

As for the 233, honestly that is all your call. I would sell it in a minute if I'm not enjoying it.

Is the 127 priced high? Don't know, compare it to the 349 and some of the recent stuff that Panerai is releasing and it looks plain deal to me........but some may say I'm blind ;-)

the left handed appeal is unquestionable. If I ever had a choice to make, I wish it were like this one....127 vs 217...can't miss..

Hi,

I own both and at gunpoint, I would gladly give up the 217. The "fiddy" they would have to pry from my hand...after having shot me. Yes both watches look the same (in a mirror) but there's something about the 127 that puts it head and shoulders above the other, in my opinion.
