Just wanted to spread my 2 cents on this Chronopassion LE piece.  There's nothing really that special about it so don't get caught up in the "hype" because the PAM358 doesn't deserve any IMO :P

Buy this watch only if you like the look of it....

I wonder if the indexes are really made in Tritium, as written on the dial....

If not, it is curious...

As curious as the agressive commercial approach on this watch...

I would also like to know who is the person posting the copyrighted picture on our website.

Does he have the rights or is it just free advertizing?

... I see an "L" for Luminova, not a "T" for tritium.

Certainly the 358 is no 21, 127, 203, 300, 339, 249, or 232.

But if you want a 47 mm sub, I think it is special. I recently put a 243, 285 and 305 next to one another and took a group look. My eye was attracted to the 285. It looked "knarly" to me, for those of you who remember that phrase.

Okay, so the 285 is now sold out, though available from a few sellers. The 358 is certainly "more special" than a 285 IMHO. Will Panerai continue to produce these 47 mm subs "without" an in-house movement? Not sure. Will future big subs be like the 305? Probably. So in the end, I think the 358 is special.

No, I'm not one of the 50. I don't think that the watch is being "hyped" now, certainly not by Chronopassion. Chronopassion would be happy to just sell these to their French customers and be done with it. They don't like the hype. Hundreds of email requests, but they don't want to ship it. Pickup at the shop only.

Certainly a lot of discussion. It's the first new watch since SIHH, so it's natural.

I hear the 339 will start to see the street in June. In 2 months, the discussion will move to that watch.

funny to see some people being so eloquent about this watch which as yet to be 'fletched' by some of its future owners.  There is no beef right? so how about waiting for those who will get it, this to finally allowing us to get their first hand impressions about this watch.

 

It seems that all talks about this watch are driven by speculations, or seem to be serving a commercial purpose.  I do not think that the initiated talks about this watch are being in respect to our hosts expectations?

Is the omission of the date feature on a Submersible.  The number "9" is my favorite aspect of this watch.

I believe Panerai has yet to create the "perfect" Submersible for what I would like.  The 87 F-H remains my favorite.

Years ago when I passed on the PAM203 from Philippe Bonay, I told him I wanted the first 47mm Egiziano when it would be released.  He told me not to bank on it, as making the watch in 47mm would not be correct and Angelo would never do it.

These days, nothing would come as a surprise.

I've tried to figure it out for myself with not much success. What does IMO stand for?

What is that caught between the bezel highly raised markers at 4 and 5? You are framed

That piece and the likes are hairs and threads catchers, as applied indexes to the bezel always cause that problem.

I think it is strange to produce a diving watch with so highly standing raised indexes, because those who dive may be caught and or pulled by something that gets on the way. Also it will quickly wear those shirtsleeves.

But it looks good and I am sure that some of us will spend one deep and lengthy summer time

I believe the indices & numerals on the bezel on 194 were originally made in white gold.   Subsequently on the 285 it was made entirely in titanium probably for the purpose of further weight cutting.

It's a nice watch but IMO not worth all the hype

To be honnest at 47mm certainly not for everyone's wrist, and the indexes are to 'modern' for me, it would have been nicer

with just the dots like on the 305 f.ex.,  and for all trouble they could have put  an inhouse movement in it huh ??

If I look at the offerings on a 285 nowadays then i'm a also afraid that the price will rather stay close to the MSRP after a while.

Then, One ex for a real 358 lover.

don't see them for sale often. But these sold out fast, and somebody must own them. Low enough volume (75) that I imagine there are 75 collectors who wanted them and have them sitting in their collections. The 358 is like this. These low volume special editions for specific shops are a great idea. Helps keep the shops afloat while their more common models sit in the display cases.
