Thx Jester and Anthony for confirming from sources that 317 K will be the first batch of PVD movements and the last batch. Would it, then, be accurate to say that regardless, there will only be 500 PVD movements in the whole production of PANERAI? (considering that they won't make more). If that's the case, this K series is definitely sentimental to many Paneristis.
Excuse my ignorance but had there ever been any PVD movements made before? 317 is the first ceramic 1950 case and the first ever pvd movement to my limited knowledge.
for Antiquorum's 30th Anniversary many years ago. I played with the watch for a few minutes so I don't remember that much anymore.
Below are pics I saved on my harddrive. Forgot who took the pics, so I don't know who to give credit to.
And to answer your other question, I wouldn't be surprised if Panerai did release another model with PVD'ed movement in the future.
Cheers,
Anthony

Still I think there are less than 300 PVD movements running around and maybe another 200 to come and that's it. The L is confirmed to run 300 with smoked sapphire.
Who knows, maybe one day, eons later, they will salvage some leftover PVD movements like they once did for the 203 when our grand kids come around and remake a then 20xx year edition of 317
Thanks anyway. It is certainly a rare piece to own for K series but it is nonetheless a current production model and we would be able to see more and more of them around which makes them more readily available soon. The invisible case back with the PVD movement is great to look at if you spend all night looking at it though I suspect. However, for that price range, you could have had a 217/127 or 217/249 duo with cash... so tough call. It's a pricy watch.
Never seen this one before.
Thank you.

I have never heard of it before, but it sure sounds cool!
Do you happen to know how much it went for at the auction? And btw, do you happen to know the PAM number of this watch, if there was one at all?
Cheers and thanks for sharing this very vital information!
Stephen
now that makes these 501 pieces very special to collectors and users
You can search the result on Antiquorum's website if you really want to find out the hammer price. Check the 2004 year auctions and look for lot 215. For some reason, $90k pops in my head but I doubt that was the final price. Check their auction history to find out.
I don't know the PAM reference # for this watch. There's none stated in the catalog description.
Cheers,
Anthony

Lot was subsequently sold in 2006 April's auction
Interesting... can't find the price though.
