Well, this weekend was always promising to be fun. Spending time with Nicolas in the warmth and beauty of Paris was always going to be fun. So too was the idea of picking up a watch that I had fell in love with some months before. But, this is not a Rolex forum, so why am i posting this here? Well, the day turned into something a lot more.
First, over lunch, we spent some time playing with some watches. I need not explain how many Nicolas brought with him. He is "the temptor". As one JLC after another came out, i found myself lost in a world of super-complications and beauty. However, the watch below also came out of the bag. I have a name for Nicolas's bag...it is the Tardis. Think about it.... the Tardis is a time machine. It is also way bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside...this is the only way that he can carry so many watches. His bag is the Tardis. Well, it needed to be to carry this beauty below. I needn't go into a review of teh PAM 36 to people on this forum as Nicolas has done so in tremendous detail before. Also, i am a novice when it comes to Panerai. I posted here last week and said that I was looking for one and only one Panerai. Well here it is.... Sorry for the scans...i need to do these properly but was itching to send this out
As with all great watches, they come in pairs. I can't leave the 36 all alone in my collection with "teams" of other watches. Like the Sith Lords in Star Wars....Panerais always come in two. So, i am looking for a brother for the above beauty.....
I wanted to say thanks to all the people on this forum who gave comments. It was a great weekend, and as Nicolas said...watches do so much more than tell the time...... The weekend also brought mcuh more than just the 36..... but i will pass that back to Niicolas!
"first of many"
lol
Watches indeed are more than watches, they create some great friendships.
And they allow us to share some pure moment of intense madness, too, don't you think?
Though, this is a dangerous game when 2 mad men gather, as it lead us to the most unreasonable situations.
But what would be Life without these rare moments?
So, you got the 36, and another nice watch you have to show us, my friend, while, at the same time, I got 3 " new " ones, and I'm fighting hard to not add the 4th one.
Your fault!
Will not have any picture to share before the end of this week, or the beginning of next week, but I can tell you that each of these 3 waere on my wish list for a while.
I'm really happy to know that my 36 found a great home, and will be on a true watchnut's wrist!
To be followed!
Best,
Nicolas
PS: If my bag is a kind of Tardis, how would I have to call yours?
not a bad way to start the Panerai collection, congrats. Be careful (or not) because them Panerais are addictive as hell and soon you might replace 2 Sith Lords, into a whole lot of...Jedis..
Cheers
If a make grabs attention, what tends to happen to me is that i do some research (or as my wife says, i shut myself away for days) and then i work on an instinct. I look for which watch calls to me loudest. In this instance, there were two that called, and i bought it. Now, what usually happens next is i will feel that the watch will get "lonely" when not being worn and so will need a soulmate to keep it company in the watch box. Rolex cane be quite a bully, especially when there is a gang of Rolex. So i will start to think about what will keep my Panerai company. Now, the second watch is usually something quite different to the first...so nuance is not an issue. It will tend to be something that is quite different. This is exactly what happened to me in Rolex. I started with Daytona, but then got a seadweller to keep it company...and then.... and then...and then.
So my prediction is that I already know i will buy another Panerai...and already know which one. Just a question now of one of the best parts of collecting watches......
HUNTING.
That is an impressive piece for starters. If you could look towards the PreV pieces, maybe a 201/A may be a good partner to your 36. Or, a nice Radiomir, perhaps a 232,249 etc.
I thought initially of the PreA Mares and 301/A, however they would look like the odd couple - a masculine looking Luminor and a smaller Mare Nostrum. However, you can definitely develop your appreciation from such an odd couple.
....though on this occasion that temptation did not come from me.... but i guess we need to wait from Nico to show.....
LoL here.
