I see tons of them for sale in the secondary markets so it shouldn't be difficult to get one through the Panerai Boutiques.
Cheers,
Anthony
that at the moment, there're a few floating around but don't forget:
#1. Given the complications involved in the making of the movement, they're probably being produced in batches. And it is just that the batches are simply hitting the retail channels hence the illusion of plenty being offered
#2. It's a relatively expensive watch in Panerai's price range, especially if you weight it by the production unit. As such it wouldn't be snapped up like other lower priced Panerai.
Ultimately in the grand scheme of thing, the 500 units from the K serie production w/ PVD'ed movement would be a rarety among the various Panerai. Having said that, obviously no point going for it just because it's rare. Get it because YOU like it.
it's one of those hyped up Models .!
first you put your Name in on the List when announced, wait a year then finally get it. but now there's plenty around for grabs.
non the less ,it's a great looking Watch.
good luck
Tony
considering that my two friends easily got 1 each from the boutique in the same day together, it is not that rare at all. Only if you'd ask... the K series is the first batch and the last to have the supposedly economically unjustifiable as claimed by PAM pvd 'ed movement... although it is to me a hyper and a gimmick more than anything else, I think if you like the watch , get it. Here's my 2 cents:
1. It has everything a modern PAM should have:
a. Ceramic
b. Black
c. Intermediate complication in the world of Panerai
d. GMT/Power Reserve/Monopulsante/Chrono (these are in no way considered grand complications to PP or A Lange but... this is PAM's in house)
e. The 1950 case
The missing elements:
1. Date like 335
2. A 47 mm case to counter the busy dial effect
It has many ticks. I would have to concur with Jester though that in The World of Panerai, this is an expensive piece (but compared to 341, 300... maybe not...) but with Pam's pricing going up higher and higher (I can't imagine any real military unit wearing a war instrument worth 30K - 40K, be it 341 or the new 300 to war... this is bullony and when was the last time the Italian Navy ever went to war anyway... ) but nonetheless worthwhile to get FWIW. For a Pam, it is expensive but on the grander scale of matter, given the same functions and complications, the same piece on a JLC (sister company probably involved in designing the movement anyway..) would cost you way more than how much you can get it.
I could be wrong but I see no point in getting it beyond list with a premium from the hands of flippers... the flippers better start lowering their prices... get it at list and enjoy wearing it.
I think it's a phenomenal piece. The PVD movement is very important to me, a tinted window would certainly not have the same appeal....not to me anyway. It certainly doesn't look like a Vintage Piece, but why should it? It's a modern complicated PAM.
It winds like "butter" and mine has gained 1 second over 8 days.. I'm stoked.
