Hi all, I just purchased my first PAM, a 351. I fell in love with the gold hands on the tobacco dial. This is bad....but it's not even arrived yet and I'm hunting my next. I'm looking at the 233 vs 270. The Watch Observer gave the 233 a great review. But there's not a comparative review with the 270. I've read the spec's at Panerai's site and I've looked at a ton of pictures. And still I don't know. Can someone comment on the 'dot' on the 233. Is that considered something special? Or would I be better looking for a later series without?

I don't expect a consensus but what is this community's opinion(s) on the 233 vs 270? Thanks! Richard

it's a Great Watch . i love it for the same reasons too.

 yeah , many of us have done that..looking for the Next Watch even before receiving the Last Purchase .!

 i like the 233 with Dot for a few Reasons. it's Simpler (without the AM/PM Indicator) ,more Elegant ,more Balanced (without the 9 ) and it's Manual..

i'd say: don't Rush it. take your time before pulling the Trigger..

Do you know what series ran the dot? I think the am/pm began with the 'L?' making K the last?

Congratulations on your 351 by the way.. It's such a great looking watch...

Preference between the dot dial / am/pm dial is a matter of taste.. To me I like the dot dial because it gives the watch a cleaner looking dial.

And as for the comparison between 233 and 270.. I really think that the 233 has a more balanced dial.. If you notice on the 270, the second counter is pushed to the center because it has a "9" index, whereas the 233 doesn't

Plus that 233 is significant because it is Panerai's 1st in-house movement.. So I believe that the 233 will always be a special piece for Panerai.

I have never experienced both watches, so I can't comment on the technical and more details about the watch.. But I say, both watches are great Panerai. You can't go wrong with both..

My girlfriend just rolls her eyes now when I say I want to show her a watch. I suspect a GTG is the only place to get any sympathy.

Thanks for the foto. Actually the 'tunnel strap' is the only thing on the 233 I don't like.
I may order a strap before I buy the watch

I agree with you about the tunnel strap, I didn't care for it and eventually gave it away to a friend.  The strap in the pic is the Panerai OEM carbon strap that is also used in the PAM 212 and 213.

Is it made of leather or a fibre?

Hi Kasey,
It's a Panerai OEM strap that is calf with a carbon fiber pattern.  Fits perfectly on the 233 and a Panerai deployant buckle.  I have small wrists and ordered the short strap from the Panerai BH Boutique.

Ed- I'm considering ordering a small strap too. What size is your wrist if you don't mind? And you're happy with the fit of the small strap?

Hi RMW,

I have a 6.5" wrist, so all my watches have short straps.  The 233 combined with the shorter strap and deployant fits perfectly for me and is one of my most comfortable watches.  Here's a few more pics for you.  The inside is calf (extremely durable and doesn't show any sweat stains) and the outside is the carbon fiber pattern.  I've had mine for quite a long time and it still it great condition:

On the wrist, 2nd to last hole.  One little detail about the short strap.  It only comes with one keeper which is sewn into the strap.  This bothered me somewhat because the tang sticks out a little bit.  I could not order the keeper by itself from the boutique, so I ended up buying the regular sized strap and taking just the keeper.  Yeah, I know that it was an expensive way to do it, but I'm very happy with the results.  Plus, I'm probably the only Panerai owner on earth who only has a single strap LOL.

My wrist is 17cm or 6.69 inches. Here's how the standard strap looks with deployant on my Glashutte Original.

In the next to last hole it's a little tight, but in the second to last a bit loose. With the regular buckle the next to last hole is perfect. I ordered a small strap from my Glashutte AD but it hasn't arrived yet. Curious how it will fit. Thanks for your pictures, Richard

You're welcome RMW, glad I can help.  I can't wait hear about how your shorter strap fits.  I think it will work out great on your G.O.  since it will probably put the buckle in a perfect location on your wrist and the tail end of the strap will look nicer.

unless you click 'details'. Then you see the dot version!

give up fighting it.... there is no cure, you just learn to live with it
