Hi All,

I would appreciate comments on PAM317 with regard to all aspects of the watch (e.g. the caliber, the design, the price, availability, etc.)

plus a P.2004 in-house movement, 317 is a fuse of Panerai's innovation in case material, design and movement.

I am hearing and reading conflicting comments on this 317, thus wanted to get members' inputs on this.

do you specific alternative that you want to compare with the 317?

Nothing in specific. I have PAM250.

Any recommendation?

what are the negatives that you've read about this watch?

But it just puts me down because it is not 47mm.

Other than the size though, it's got a real cool stealth aspect to it, the finish is wonderful, the movement is top notch especially the early 500 that comes with a PVD movement ( later ones came with a smokey glass as they call it, so the movement itself is not PVD'ed, but the see through crystal is so you think you are seeing it black, but it's the effect).

The lume shot of this piece is VERY cool and honestly a good buy if you can find it especially at retail!

Highly recommended, says the one who doesnt buy it himself.

Sigh.

Black case, yet nearly impossible to scratch . . . thats a winner combo!!!!! Given the difficulties Panerai encountered PVDing the movement, it is unlikely that Panerai will PVD another movement and, therefore, the 500 K series 317s are genuinely unique. Technically not a SE, but the total production numbers for the 317 are less than many Panerai SEs. Perfect 44mm size. Can be worn with a stealthy black strap, or with a contrasting strap:

with everything Craigh has said. I just love mine and I just have to get myself the same strap as Craig which just gives another depth to the watch.

Clearly a purchase you can't go wrong with.

It's difficult to pair 317 with a brown strap cuz it's buffalo strap is near perfect to me!
I can't visual the 317's busy dial with a patterned gator until I saw your combo! It looks so rich in texture!
I'm going to try it on my brown nubuck and the new vintage brown calf (the one that goes with boutique edition Luminor) if they don't do well, I'm going to PM you for order detail too!

Every time I see of Craig's watch with that strap it drives me crazy. I am sure that I will end up getting it.
