Officine Panerai

I was able to visit my local AD today and they had three Panerai that I had been considering; a PAM 111 and a PAM 352. It was nice to be able to try them on in the flesh in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

The WIS in me was drawn to the exclusivity of the PAM 352, its in-house movement, brushed finish, brown dial, quick strap change feature, ability to change hours independently, hacking etc., But the way the case sat on my wrist was just not for me. Also the sharpness of the 1950s case corners while beautiful scared me as future ding magnets to a klutz like me (kind of like a AP Royal Oak's Bezel).

I really liked both watches for different reasons, but in the end the PAM 111 won the day based on its iconic representation of the brand’s design essence, supperior wrist comfort, dial simplicity and the owner/watch connection of a manual wind movement.

So without further adieu, here is my new watch via my iPhone (better images to follow). Thanks to all for your advise in my earlier post. Bob

That was my first PAM. You're going to enjoy that for many years to come. Now go get yourself a bunch of straps for it.

I believe the watch came with a Calf Gold Cashmere Treatment or Semimat strap (Does anyone know which for my reference?) and a black rubber strap. The OP website shows about 2 dozen options for a 44 mm Luminor case. Other than a rubber strap what do folks wear when taking their Panerai into the water? Also, which aftermarket strap suppliers might I investigate (I see that there are many).

Congratulations! 111 is surely a great start for Pam lovers. Thanks to your pics that remind me of my first unforgettable beauty Pam, a J series 111. I will be here, hunger, waiting for more pics.

I am going through the same dilemma. I love the 359 but the 1950's case just does not seem to fit me right.
It's a little big and just doesnt lie right. The "regular" luminor case fits me great so I am strongly considering the
Pam 00000. Have alway loved that one.

The dilemma as you describe it to me is indeed similar to mine (351 vs. 111). I love the look of the 1950s case, particularly the side view. The undersweeping sides of the case, the shallower bezel angle and the brushed finish. What I found was that the rear case back bezel was thicker and it lifted the case away from my wrist. So it never could couple to my wrist like the Luminor case. The overall thickness is >3 mm thicker as well (Some where around 15 mm is my personal limit it seems). To each his own I guess. There are certainly some beautiful watches in these cases. I am happy that I had the luxury of trying them on and wearing them both a bit before deciding.

Agree 100 percent. So important to try on and spend time with them before purchasing.
What I'm realizing is that no matter how much you like a piece if it does not fit right you will end up not putting it on.
So while I will spend more time with the 1950 case I'm thinking I need to explore more luminor pieces as that is where the right fit is for me as well.

and been wearing the 416/413 regular luminor case and I have to say, the P9000 movement 1950 cases does not fit me well...

The 111 is a classic piece.

Now just be aware of the strap buying bug, it can be nearly as costly as buying your Pam in the first place!! LOL
