PreVendome 5218-202/A Marina Militare

So the other day I posted a trivial post "What does 36 + 9 equal to?".. 
Some knew the answer right.. smile


It is really the PreVendome 5218-202/A, the Marina Militare..


I always think that the best feature of both watches combined together fits the very characteristic of the 202/A... 
Here they are side by side:

The 4 lines : 
(Although the location of the wording are the opposite one another)

And the PVD case with the fat numbered tritium base dial :
(Notice how different the PVD Coating on both : It's more solid black/lead pencil grey on the 202/A 
and it's more greyish/bluish-purplish on the PreA9 OP6500 Case)

The 202/A Marina Militare was launched in 1993 together with the 201/A Logo and 301/A Mare Nostrum during the rebirth of Panerai.. 
Although all were intended for civilian market, the 202/A still have a close relation to the Italian Navy.. 
Some batch were sold to the public while some few pieces were actually given to the Ex-Italian Navy as gift..


That provenance, although mine was most likely initially sold to a civilian,  is one of the reason why I love the 202/A


Another reason is no other than the looks.. It might be a very shallow reason, but just look at it


I just couldn't resist the balance of the dial : base dial with 4 lines and the contrast of the black PVD case with the ecru-color, 
not to mention FAT numbers on this watch...


Here, next to the PreV Logo, IMHO, the 2 most balanced, beautiful and important Panerai (put aside the vintages of course)

about time you introduced this....splendour....properly. S P E C T A C U L A R. Without doubt my favourite Pre-V. Oh, well, I got the 36 first and you got the Pre-A 9 first. Looks like I'll have to....languish behind for a while longer...hahahaha Congratulations...smile

SPECTACULAR is the right word, I still can't think of any other Panerai that looks as good as this one

I really have to say to you, don't wait too long if you're looking for this one...

Your piece was in-fact the more desirable Non-Matching dial.. A very spectacular example I must say..

I truly feel that I've reached the roots of "modern-day" Panerai with these important pieces

But to get to the vintage, I'm not sure if I'm ready...

The problem with the Vintage is that one out of 5 is a fake...

And that it is not always easy to say when it is a good one.

You've got the Mare Pre V, Sam? I don't remember, but if you don't, you should get it.

Plus that it really is NOT CHEAP at all.... 

I've always been a huge admirer of the  Mare , especially the PreV Mare

But I just always spend my budget to go for my grails




But I really do hope I will be able to get one one day

IMHO, The PreV Mare is one of the most underrated Panerai.. I just love every bits of it

You can't consider a Pre V Collection without a Mare... Noit necessarily a Slytech, like this 302, by the way.

A 301/ A is enough.

And if you want the Creme De La Creme, go for a 304, with its amazing smooth bezel.

As for now this last purchase hurt my wallet badly... But made me very happy.. Thats what matters, doesn't it? smile)

I really hope one day, I will end up with one of the three beautiful PreV Mare

I have yet to see the beauty of the smooth bezel of the 304, as I'm sure picture doesn't do the justice..

Same with the PreV 301/A and 302, which I didn't like it before, until I saw them in metal, which was truly stunning!! 

So let's just hope... smile

That is in-fact the path I chose to go through...

It gave me much pleasure and satisfaction to go through it

And as for my piece, it certainly has some character ( or say it wear ) but still i'm really happy with it..
