I used to fly A LOT and this may explain why I love pilot watches.

One of my preferred watches is the Top Gun Miramar (no relation with the so so movie):

Here with my 1 million miles luggage tag (1 million real miles! 1.6 million of kilometers, equivalent of 40 trips around the globe) that I "clocked" on a single airline.

The Miramar is as close I have for a perfect watch.

Pilot's legibility, great in house movement wrapped by a gorgeous black ceramic case.

The Concorde has been a dream of mine since being a little child. Sadly is stopped flying the odd year too soon for me to have realized it

Was quite excited by Virgin's plan to continue flying them and disappointed when it did not work out

Great watch, btw. Only thing I dislike about it somewhat is the altimeter date but then it's far from a deal breaker

As for Miramar, I take it Miramar California, not the iteration next to Trieste, or the one in Luanda, Angola?

... was when I saw it two or three planes prior to us waiting in the flightline on JFK. I adored that plane, unreasonable as it always was! And especially your shot into the cockpit tells of times long gone - today, you risk being stopped at gunpoint whenever you dare to approach the cockpit door. I always asked to visit the cockpit, and when there was still a third man (engineer), I had lots of nice conversations.
For me, the IWC Top Gun is a bit too "loud", regarding its dedication to an old movie. But I like the non-Top Gun versions, espcially now, when IWC chose to return to the standard date window.

Last September I was in Chicago trying to get an upgrade on a flight, when the airline club lady said the guy ahead of me in line had 12 million, and there was another local guy she knew approaching 20 million!

I'll put the Top Gun Miramar back on my " opportunistic buy " list.

And I suspect miles on any airline. He should be approaching 17 million by now, most earned when United used only butt-in-seat miles. Let's see, it's February, so he should be well past 1K requalification by now.

I have about 2.2 million miles, sadly divided between American and United, but I fly domestically for 99% of my traveling.

You're right: Someone always has more miles. As a Premier Gold, I'm usually well down the upgrade list when flying hub-to-hub. I get treated very nicely at Hilton properties, however.

I would love an IWC Pilot, now that I've matured enough to properly appreciate a big watch. But a vintage Venus-powered Navitimer--oolala.
