Hi all.
IWC Eternal Calendar Prototypes
I got to wear one of the Erernal Calendar prototypes today. I was told this watch will never be available, in the sense that it will always be something a client would order. Currently it is only available in the configuration we know, so unlike the Siderale Scafucia it can’t be custom designed (yet.)
I am a big IWC nerd, I have over 25 watches from Schaffhausen, incl Tourbillons and a Minute Repeater. I really want to like everything they bring out, especially within the Portuguese line. I love the new color and the revised sapphire dome that was introduced at W&W … but I have to say that I was underwhelmed by this particular flag ship watch.
The problem is the glass. The dial is glass, ans the bright white glass under the sapphire, with other transparent elements on the dial, may be technically excellent…. but it is all together too shiny. Weirdly, it made me think of Studio Underd0g Series 2 with its glass dial. It is a very bright white, almost slightly leaning into the blue, and was giving me Frisian tile vibes.
I look forward to seeing this remarkable complication in other colors, but for now this particular version is not for me. Hope you all get a chance to try it on soon, too.

Truly impressed by IWC’s new releases this year I was looking forward to see the Eternal Calendar in reality.
My first impression, based only on the published images, was that this technically fascinating new release, despite its romantic complications, could possibly appear very... cold in terms of design.
What do you think of the new “standard” Portugieser PCs? I have a weakness for the Dune model and the black onyx dial variant in rose gold. But I would also like to see these variants live. Were you able to try them on in reality?

The new colors rock
I like dune and especially obsidian, and would like to see the Eternal in that color combination
Yes, the Obsidian is very elegant
I would expect this new Eternal Calendar to rock in those colors, though I think the new dial technique would not pop as much
IWC is always handsome but this one is a bit too big and powerful for me
Personally MUT Perpetual Black is better fit for my hand

Did IWC say when they will actually start deliveries?

My understanding is that they’ve taken orders and have begun production. I gather four months, so in time for Christmas
I've always admired IWC for its combinations of horological history with development. Here, however, the name of the piece makes me very uncomfortable.
