IWC

Hi fellow purists.

Despite having many vintage watches in my collection I have not one watch I wear myself . The only watch I ever bought new was a Fortis Automatic pilot watch . Which I gave away to a friendly doctor in Paraguay after curing me from some injuries.

So the time has come for me to buy a brand new watch with papers , guarantee and box. A watch I plan to use for the rest of my life.  I made a shortlist based on some criteria . One of the most important criteria is it must be a very durable and reliable watch and it should be a good longtime investment . I am a person who travels extensivly mostly in South America and Europe. And enjoy outdoors sports mainly kayaking solo for days on the big rivers in South America.

For my shorlist I came up with 4 potential canidates

IWC Mark XVI 

BREGUET XX or XXI

FORTIS MARINE MASTER B 42

DOXA T 750 Proffesional


Which one should I  use,

so what strikes me about this list is the huge price range, the Breguet lists at 4x of the Doxa...
So that in mind, and also the fact that you want absolute durability, I'd drop the Breguet.  Don't get me wrong, it is a very nice watch, but unless you really are in love with it, and if you were you wouldn't ask us , I don't think the aded cost is worthwhile.  Also no matter how well made, a chrono just has a many more places for failure, both in the movement and in the case.

I have decided to spend to 10 k on a watch if I must . The pricerange difference is because I think an IWC or  Breguet will have a better resale value in the long future . But at the same time I want a watch which is practical with my life style .  Traveling ,outdoors etc . 

Good point about the chronograph though, that there is more risk of failure.  I use the chronograph for kayaking to measure actual time rowed , and or as a flight indicator when I fly .

Fits all the needs an adventurous traveler ever can have, and there's no way you can call that watch dressy! Putting it next to a Kobold makes that Kobold look like a girlie watch, as Arnold " a ROO T3 fits me pretty well" Schwarzenegger would say

hi there, it seems like you are getting a daily beater and if thats right then maybe the breguet needs a lot of thots becoz of its price compared to the rest. I duno how you feel but I will be consciously "looking out"  to prevent any mishaps, scratches, dings on it and that would kinda defeat its purpose as a daily wearer.
