I also really like the Big Inge. I have often thought that might make another good daily wear watch on a bracelet for me. And of course, that Portuguese is a beauty.
But this is my favorite:

If your a fan of the EWC I think you'd really like the Big Ingenieur. I've always liked the sleek Ingenieur design of the previous models, the red part on the power reserve is a really nice touch on the dial. Add the 7 day movement along with a comfortable bracelet and you have a really winner here in the Big Inge. Especially if your wrist is big enough to really pull this watch off.
Tony
As you know, I AM a fan of the EWC, so this Big Ingenieur is right up my alley. Perhaps one day...and I really would like another daily wear piece.
My two other IWC dreams are the 5251 Portofino and the Portuguese 2000. The Portofino would be especially nice as I do not yet have a moonphase. As you can see, I am drawn to some of the older models rather than the more recent production.

I am pretty sure I will not go after a vintage Inge -- I like the big modern one as an alternate daily wear piece.

Apologies for keeping this one under wraps for a bit.
I had been hunting the Jubilee for a while and had the opportunity to acquire this one not too long ago under very pleasant circumstances. I feel very fortunate to have found it.
So, you mentioned it is the IWC Calatrava or Patrimony...so, what do we think of this as a dress watch? Do you think with, perhaps a black croc strap, this might serve as a more formal wear watch? I know it is a bit big, but you know my penchant for larger watches...
Thank yo for the kinds words and congratulations.

It will be difficult to not being stcuk to brown.
I am not sure that the combo black croc / this dial is the best.
Too many colors for the same elegant watch.
Try, you will see.
What I would do is to play on an old croc, whose finish would be rugged, and the color would be light.
Light brown for less formal moments, dark brown for dressy moments.
IMO.
Best, my friend.
Vlad is happy fooooor you!

I was lucky enough to be offered this IWC from a true IWC collector, and I jumped at the chance.

One of the purest watches as far as I'm concerned! thans for the beautiful picture
Matt
This watch must be an easy one to photograph if even I could maanage I half decent shot.

But the smaller version you refer to is a beauty and perhaps better suited to some wrists. It is always good to have JLC inside, IMHO.
Thank you,

Lovely, lovely piece! An icon of style and simplicity and moreover a rare bird. I am so very happy for you (and the watch in fact) that you have found this. Such a piece deserves a caring owner.
It never seizes to amaze me how often I share your taste in watches (and opinions in other topics actually) as you so elegantly express them here on these pages. If we didn't live so far apart I would suggest that we pooled our ressources and shared a watch collection
(although that would probably require a hefty adjustment fee from my side
) Disclaimer: This is NOT a marriage proposal, but merely an expression of profound respect
Further down in this thread, you discuss whether this watch can pass as a dress watch. I definitely think so! Even on a brown strap. I am not fully convinced about a black strap for this one. I recently put a black strap on an SS watch with (off)white dial and gold indexes and hands for a black tie event. I usually keep this watch on a tan ostrich strap, which I feel compliments the overall colour combo better than a black strap, but the black definitely added to the formal look. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the watch with the black strap on it for you to judge. I could try and swap straps again and post a few pics, but at the end of the day I guess that you would need to see for yourself on your own watch to finally decide.
Strap changing is so much fun! Almost a poor mans alternative to getting a new watch
Congratulations on the Jubilee!!

I hope that we will meet some day. I love reading about the WIS GTGs on this forum. I so rarely get to talk watches in real time here where I am. I love the idea of a shared watch collection. Brilliant!
I will have to experiment with straps for this watch. i actually like the color strap that is on the watch now. I think the brown suits the Port very nicely, but I would like to try something darker and perhaps a bit more dressy. Well, we'll see. Now that we are entering the hot and humid season in Philly, I will be using rubber and metal bracelets (albeit NOT on this IWC!) almost entirely for the next several months.
Best my friend, and thank you again for your kind words always,

I have also often toyed with the idea of attending one of the PPro GTGs but the short notice travelling involved is usually preventive for me.
I will drop you a line in case I come near Piladelphia and expect you to do the same if you are ever close to Copenhagen!
Nikolaj
Philadelphia is a great city, but it is not a watch epicenter.

is one of IWC's nicest watches in production. I could see myself owning it again someday. Try it on a dark brown strap sometime, the watch looks great that way.
