If Rolex do surveys, I think they're are some participants with a hilarious sense of humour.

If you are going to do a tribute to one of the most iconic watches in the Rolex history, you have to PAY RESPECT to that original.

At least not for this watch, I thought the size increases were gone? We already know that 40mm works for Rolex sport models. It's the RIGHT size! Improve the movement, and the materials, that's what Rolex is good at!

looks good, but white metal would have been helpful.

The SD for me is nice but not super exciting.

For me the Sea Dweller is perfect.

Very disappointing line-up from Rolex this year, IMO. I had expected better from Dufour.

I understand why it made sense for Rolex to differentiate the Sea Dweller from its brother.  For most consumers the SD4000 was just a comparatively over-priced Sub with a smaller case and no cyclops to tell people what it was.  Personally I think the design changes are a travesty, but then I haven't warmed up to ceramic bezels either. 

What I was really hoping to see were new dial options for the 36mm OP or a Datejust with brushed lugs.  But my tastes do not the market make.

And 43mm? Yikes. It just seems wrong.

In my opinion I think this is a rare miss for a Rolex sport model.

They clearly state 'we don't care about watch lovers, we don't care about this brand's history; we care about hypothetical increased sales, even if we ruin our heritage in the process"

This company has long entered the joke territory...look at their antimagnetic innovation for the last thousand years....while others really care and innovate.

That said i think we often overestimate our place in the watch world when it comes to things like this.  The 'purist' dollar is buttons (as in, insignificant) in the grand scheme of things, we can't move this market or influence it in any meaningful way.  While most here would have wet themselves (me included) if this had been smaller and sans cyclops my guess is Rolex wouldn't have sold much of that watch.

Collectors shape watch trends and even if they themselves buy few watches compared to the global market, they influence a whole lot more (especially in this social media/digital age). I work in Life Sciences and we value influencers/opinion leaders of communities as gold. I guess Rolex needs a few more CEO's rotation before they catch up to the new world.
Similarly, they started upsizing their range ten years after it all happened (and ended).
Super unimpressed by them as a company an all levels, product and innovation first and foremost.

Hi Alex,
It's a shame, I had expected much better from Dufour. He did a great job at Zenith and the 2016 line-up was very promising (Daytona, improved Ex1 and the unexpected Air King). This year the line-up seems purely commercially driven, showing no respect for the heritage.

For some strange reason, these reactions remind me what happened some months ago with PP when they put out the 40 Anniversary Nautiluses, tons and tons of harsh comments then the first time someone had the watches in his hands complete (almost) turnaround...
And tons of wonderful words to celebrate how subtle are the dials, with their inscriptions invisible to human eyes, how the increase case dimensions of the case fit the chrono, the grace of the diamond indexes and so on and so for
Could this be the same? Just wondering...

I respect many opinions here immensely and appreciate their need for historical and accurate connections especially on tributes, but better movement, case materials and so on. If it had a different name and wasn't a tribute and one looked at the watch objectively in the metal I'm curious if the perspectives would change. having said that I'm the teapot calling the kettle black as the diamond hour markers on the 5170P for Patek this year ruined and otherwise gorgeous watch.
