It has been almost one year since its release, and I am a bit surprised that there have been so few comments about this watch.
Supposedly, dealers now have about a 3 month delay in obtaining one after placing an order with Rolex/Tudor.
I think it is the smart choice in a modern tool watch. Creamy indices are much warmer and easier to look at than the stark white of the original pelagos. Left hand crown is quirky and fun.
Engraved numbers now are in the high 1000s; I have not heard of any over the 2000 mark. It remains a mystery as to for how long this version will be produced. Engraved number has no relation to serial number, by the way.
Other pluses: the square indices with snowflake hand are more consistent and historically correct with the snowflake hand (contrast with the multiple black bay models). The matte dial and matte ceramic bezel are lovely. The glossy dial on modern Rolex submariners and sea dweller/dssds are a negative for me, and likewise I do not care for the glossy dial on the new explorer. The case to bracelet proportions are much more elegant than the current submariner.
I had plans to acquire the Seiko SLA017, but had several reservations that only increased after reading many posted observations, despite the dominant positive reviews.
I rethought my desires. And decided that for the same price, the LHD would please me much more for years to come. So with the help of a very nice AD, my little collection now has one more member.
