A shot of one of the finest Rolex Submariner 5508 I'v seen.
The lugs are in superb shape, and the dial is just sublime.
Ok, the insert is a later one, and would deserve something more appropriate, of course, but the crown has a " + ". Not much more to do to have a superb specimen.
Now the question is to know if this is the most desirable reference in terms of small no crown guard Submariner...
I would well see a 6205 or 6536 Red above...

It is not the proper insert, 6205 6536 and 6538 might be higher in the desirability list of some purists and PuristS but...
...that 5508 would easily make my day for sure with no reserve and no regrets 😉
Of course some mythic references are above in the adrenaline list but with such a premium that it removes the pleasure imho as these become an object of speculation.
Needless to say that I strongly hope that my watches will not loose money at all or at least not too much as time goes but this is certainly not my first motivation when buying a watch. It should suit my taste and my banker's agreement. Size should suit my wrist (5508 is just perfect for my small wrist), and it should be in the best possible condition if vintage: I very much prefer a beautiful 5508 in condition like this one rather than a 6536 or 6538 of which the dial and hands are oxydised and the case polished too many times.
