that the root beer is a 1.5 yr waiting list?? got that from the rolex boutique in New Bond street this afternoon...
Also about this boutique, I wnet there few years ago to get my very first rolex.... a datejust blue dial 36 and their attitude was really really bad... like "we are rolex, we are super famous, I don't need to talk to you well or spend more time on you, if you want to buy one, just get the cash in qiuckly or go... " and the lady actually spoke to me like I was buying a super cheap thing. It was quite a big moment for me in fact.
So I decided to not buy it from this boutique and ended up in another AD.
Today, I went there to ask if they had the root beer and AGAIN (probably the same lady) talked to me like "come on it's a 1.5 yr waiting list... u stupid or what? now go away and come back in 2 yrs..."
This may only be my own interpretation and she was mayybe not meaning this at all, but i've been twice in this boutique and had twice this feeling... which I did not have when I went to Omega, or JLC or Patek later today .... I really felt uncomfortable and had the feeling my presence was wasting her time...

it’s completely unacceptable for staff in any business to make customers feel that way. I am sure that the management at Rolex would not condone this behaviour.

ADs and boutiques are a mixed bag - you are either treated like a king or like an ass. Sometimes it's unintentional (condescending tone is something many people can't control) and sometimes it's intentional (a salesperson in a F. P. Journe boutique kept bashing on a Lange I was wearing while showing me a Centigraphe). Regarding the root beer Rolex, here in South America they're relatively easy to find; I know of a store that has one on sale. Maybe try your luck while going on a trip?

Ouch....sorry to hear that...so I really have to be happy when I got this back in Oct.
The 116500 Daytona and the Blue Skydweller both took a year after their respective BaselWorld release for the delivery.
This Root Beer was "only" few months after BaselWorld and I thought since it was 2 tone and more expensive, the wait wasn't that long...of course the Pepsi is still waiting.
So in relative terms, My AD really is treating me very well.
Hope you find yours soon in another location, but really the key is to stick to same AD.

Ok, but they play this game with the Daytonas 20 years and the people still waiting for a new Daytona five years (when they have luck).
My friend is watchmaker in a AD and he told me four weeks ago, Rolex send only a few watches and so they sale this watches only to old clients. Unknown clients have no chance to buy a GMT, SUB, DAY, SKY in steel. They dont have waiting list, because she is too long, may be for the next 20 years.
ok I kinda understand they want to make is a "precious" but to me this is a bit of a dump strategy if they are really doing that
as it's gonna frustrate the "younger generation" who may have cash but don't necessary need to a have a whole collection before getting one they like.
The other option is to get it with a 40% premium (the one I tried on) which is ridiculous again in my opinion.
Anyway... I won't be patient enough to wait 3 yrs lol

I am a little bit older and i know a very similar case. In the eigthies you had to wait five years for a Mercedes 123 ! The people waited five years for this car!
There was an other option, buy an one years old car from a Mercedes worker, they have to wait one year to sell the car, and you pay 15% more for this one year old car with 15000km.
Now the things are changed, you can find every Mercedes on the next corner. I dont know, but i think Rolex is not on the Mercedes way. Rolex is Rolex and the worked hard 50 years for this Exit. You can ask in the last village in Afrika, Europe, America what is the best watch, and the people say Rolex. They had no Pression from the stock markets like Swatch or Richemont, they are free and have more money like UBS and CS together.
So if you are young, wait three years and than you will love the watch more than another watch, always aviable on every corner. Think about this!

ok you're making a point ...
but still in my case for ex, I unfornately can't afford to buy every single watch that I really like... so I would need to make a choice.
Given how complicated it is to get one, I think that people would tend to go for the first one available and thank god, not all pieces have a 3 yrs waiting list though.
And on top of that, what really shocked me and discouraged me to wait that long was the attitude of the staff...

In sales the most dangerous mistake is arrogance!!
There is a great local story in my town a farmer tried to ask for the price for a Mercedes SL at the local Mercedes dealer but they just ignored him. Ended buying two from the dealer in the neighbor town.

I think the only way they will change is by
Challenging their attitude immediately. I planned to visit that boutique this week but might save myself a couple of hundred yards walk and unwarranted attitude and go to WOS on Regent St., I must say however, I had a very pleasant conversation with a Rolex staff member in Harrods, I was wearing a Speedmaster which he correctly identified, we talked about it and had a chat about the wider watch market, trends, etc., he was the exact opposite of the person you encountered above. Hit and miss I guess.
Tbh I did not bother spending more time

Was there in may looking for a watch for the Boss . Didnt spend more then 10 minutes there , never have i met a sales person that was so uninterested in us .

I have entered that boutique once and I can confirm that the service is rubbish there. In fact, I have been quite let down by the Rolex boutiques in London be it at their flagship Knightsbridge branch, Heathrow Airport, Harrods and Selfridges. The Brand was always popular but as demand exceeds supply for at least half a dozen models including the watch you were mentioning, there seems to be an arrogant attitude adopted by many sales people. It is almost like they would be doing you a favour to add you to the waiting list.
