Rolex

Oh yeah! TSMC takes forever!

I agree, I think I put in above that they're counting the time the alligator is an egg till the alligator strap is produced!  And they're counting the thousands of years it took for dinosaurs to turn into oil.  They must be counting those years too, but then they should say it takes a thousand years to make a Rolex!  They're way off!  One year?  It takes 1000+ years!  Way off either way you look at it!

Be less sarcastic please. They might be incubating certain parts used in watch for the year and that can make this statement factually correct.

A watch might take a day or less to be assembled and finished but those one year old parts would qualify the one year time frame... Just my 2 cents..

True, if they had a year supply of watch hands or screws for instance, this part could be factually correct...

I'm not being sarcastic.  But I am taking her word somewhat literally.  But it's just so misleading.

When you think of it,

this is only talking about watches. Most of us probably realise, that not the smallest part of what we read and hear everyday on internet, TV, Radio, newspapers etc. is far away from truth and reality. What makes me wonder is, how many people take all that they hear and read for granted and believe it as being the truth. Somehow people lost the ability to think logical and think for themselves. Scary at times...

You bring up an even bigger problem!

Anyone with this simple logical thought, the labor cost alone is many times more than $5000, the price of a new Rolex Oyster Perpetual.  Unless Rolexes are made in a country with extremely low labor costs.  But Rolexes are made in Switzerland, which has fairly high labor costs!

Then the other problem here is the fact that a credible expert is delivering the information.  In a courtroom, expert witnesses are paid thousands for their advice and testimony.  They are relied upon to provide information that is extremely accurate, on point, factual, and not easily misinterpreted.  Furthermore, the expert witness is also subject to rigorous cross examination by opposing counsel.  Now, while YouTube is not a court house, this expert witness is from a major watch news outlet.  This gives our expert a lot of credibility where it may not be deserved!

But as you said, it's all up to the end user to believe it.  But if you can't believe a supposed expert, who can you believe?

I don't believe everything I read or see on the news.  And yes, I see a lot of mistakes in journalism.  But this one surprised me.

Impossible to believe that with such a production. And for a comparison, it takes one year to assemble and adjust a watch like the Duometre à Grande Sonnerie. How can it be the same for a time only? [nt]

Average gullible person has heard of Rolex. Average gullible person doesn't even know what a Grand Sonnerie is!

But I get what you mean!

Rolex did a lot for Horology, though. But not for High Horology. This is not their segment, indeed. [nt]

Did they ever claim such a thing? [nt]

Nope. Rolex never claimed such a thing. In fact, I've heard a Rolex Account Manager tell employees that this was not true and not to say such a thing. [nt]

It's not "one year" that makes Sport Rolex so expensive...

 By: destrodan : May 19th, 2020-22:45
...it's the 40-60 years of built-up wabi that makes Sports Rolex so expensive!

Kind regards,
Dan

My concern is how many people did this go thru before being put out to the public. Just nuts. [nt]

So there's the possibility that millions of people have absorbed this message and assume it to be factual!

Great topic, thread and commentary! [nt]

she said it with a straight face...almost smile

Maybe she genuinely believed that...

Maybe she was like me, I first heard that "a Rolex takes a year to make" statement when I was eight years old. Maybe she heard it when she was very young, assumed it to be true, and has propagated it as fact. Someone should inform her she's very mistaken. As for her facial expression, I'm not an expert witness, so I can't give any testimony.
Thank you for reading Nacelle! And thank you for commenting!
