Trio of Submariner, Daytona and GMT Master 2
Finally I have completed the steel sports watch trio I wanted. Submariner “Kermit” ceramic, Daytona “Panda”, GMT Master 2 “Pepsi”. I was too late to get the Hulk before it was discontinued but am very grateful to have received the new Kermit earlier this week.

How does the new green sub wear on the wrist ? Does it wear slightly larger versus the hulk or even the gmt you own?
I think they wear about the same
The Daytona wears a bit smaller. Ceramic 41mm Kermit, 40mm sub-c of Pepsi wear around the same to me

Yes sick and tired of the Richemonts, Swatch, LVMH brands with their LEs after LEs (yet less demand and poor value each time lol). Rolex doesn’t need any LEs yet have such huge demand . Clearly they are doing it right and I respect that ! The difference between privately owned with long term strategies vs listed companies with never ending pressures for short term profits and required returns by shareholders
Besides, sports watches are much more fuss free than my dressy Langes etc (leather strap unsuitable in hot and sunny Singapore, precious gold gets “scratched by wind blowing” etc lol). I don’t need to buy these watches so these brands pamper me for exclusive events and dinners. It’s better I buy the watch I like and buy my own dinners lol!
I still have those Langes, JLCs, Montblanc Villeret watches but in my bank vault and seldom worn these days. Not so keen on them anymore

Similar with me, I used to think “everyone” or almost too many, Singapore “uncles” , “A-longs”, wear Rolex and missing out on the fine prestigious brands of traditional watch making with nice movements etc....😂
My first Rolex is the Cellini Prince, because it’s different and I can see the movement....followed by a 116520 Daytona, which is solidly built, accurate and rest is history.

However, to comment on Rolex "doing it right" - some ten years ago I was still able to collect subs and daytonas at my AD with 25-30% off MRSP. Since then they have not really changed their business policy but market has gone crazy. I don't wear my Rolex watches, it is just for having them in a collection. To me they have solid but uninspiring calibers and dials that follow the mainstream likes. Nothing for watch afficinados imho. I prefer your other watches and hope that you get acquainted with them soon again

Yes, market has shifted in 10 year, the current trend is clearly still steel sports models. But Rolex, AP, Patek are not the only brands with these steel sports offerings, JLC has them, VC has always had them, now lange also has 1. But those who have clear demand are those belonging to the independent brands, so clearly they have done something right in the past 10 years, or have acquainted and move together with the market's taste and preference while the others lost out.
We are all watch aficionados, whether you like your lange and JLC, or I like my rolex and rm. Please do not think one group is superior to the other, because that will be founded on nothing but inflated hubris.

well, in my town we have three ADs with full offering in one street
Maybe through this competition ten years (and 15/20 years) ago I was able to walk in, pick a certain sub or Daytona and get that kind of percentage off MSRP. Not today anymore but at that time yes. I think some here will remember that e.g. the last Kermits were sold well below MRSP...
For the other comment of yours you are right; I was thinking of haute horlogerie when writing about aficionados but that was not correct. To me these Rolex steel models are not on the same HH level compared to other mentioned watches/brands.

Rolex is below these HH brands in movement finishing for sure
Especially when compared to indie brands like Dufour, KV, Laurent Ferrier, Hajime Asaoka (I’m still loving my new Tsunami!) , as well as below lange, PP, VC (at least those with geneva seals)

You are so right. Rolex is a truly respectful brand and I value its long term strategy and its self confidence (for some good reasons). So is Patek Philippe. They are both great brands. Indeed independence and taste matter. [nt]
