Rolex

I have never owned a Rolex. My collection is mainly Patek and i am a bit religeous about this strategy. Last week though, a friend of mine wants to sell his OP 41 blue to upgrade for another watch. It is still almost new (1 year old but looks in excellent condition). He had it covered with plastice even as you aee below.
I decided to try it… it is controversial specially when i come from a more conservative Patek arena. But at the same, looks different and funny ( i sometimes feel my collection is serious).

Will try it for a week and then decide whether i would buy a first Rolex after all those years.

I know this is a provocative watch to the community but if anyone has any valuable feedback, i would appreciate it. As i said i am not into Rolex guy but have read a bit over the past 2 days and it remined me with the conterversial topic of the 5711 few years back.

They are sophisticated, elegant, classic and understated. I bet they confer similar emotions to you when you wear them. But there’s also clearly a fun and adventurous side to your personality that does not take itself too seriously. I commend you for that and I think you should explore it. Now, is a robin’s egg blue dialed Rolex the answer? Maybe, maybe not. I think you’re doing the right thing by trying it out for a week to see if it’s true love or just a passing fancy. Whatever the result, I don’t think your next piece will be another Patek. Indulge your crazy side and have fun with it. There are so many ways you could go with that, do let us know what you decide!

Except on retail price.
I strongly think the watch does not worth more than its retail price. Dont get me wrong. Rolex makes very fine and reliable watches. But a watch that hyped just because of the dial colour....nah.

1. If you don’t know and feel it yourself and have to ask us, this is not a watch you are 100% sure about. In this case I always would pass.
2. This dial colour is just part of a current hype. So, do you REALLY like it?
3. Regarding value: the development is difficult to predict in these crazy (greedy) times. But for me it would never be more worth than its retail price.

Just my humble opinion. ☺️

Note that it wasn’t even a complete “betrayal” to Patek, since it was critical to employ two of their ADs carrying both brands in order to source them at retail (they are otherwise very hard to get, especially the OP41, for non-Rolex customers like me! ;-)

i will negotiate the price but it would not be MSRP... it will also not be what is currently advertised. will probably be somewhere in the middle which is fine. price is not the issue here.
as i said it looks very different to me and very much in your FACE!! a change from the 5164R or the 5205R! will see. so far i am getting tempted but will wait a week before i decide.
i also tried the Czapek with both green and ice blue dials over the past few weeks... this is when i realized i need to get less serious . both versions were stunning and maybe given the brand, are closer to Patek than Rolex. for one time, i am feeling, if i want to go crazy, i should do it a bit extreme and then see. honestly, what would happen in 6months if i dont like it? the world wont finish. i can park it or sell it.

the rule (for all of them) is retail price only.

However I wouldn’t pay a penny more than retail for such a watch.
If this is the case go for it. What’s the worst than can happen?
Although from a personal point Tiffany anything is for our ladies. The Colour is very effeminate to me.

so in the world of a Patek owner it won't look as much and after a while (probably longer than one week test drive) you probably won't wear it as much. (just an assumption, I don't know your collection). In the world of Rolex it is a very basic one and nothing to be WOW about. These watches were meant to be fun, entry level watches not hyped as they are now.

You get a lot of attention with this one. I feel way more comfortable with the 5712. You dont get those "looks" that you get with the tiffany. I would not recommend if the looks bother you. I agree with the others, that you should not pay more than retail.

Because of the bright dial color. As for rolex, I had many watches before I got a submariner. It is not my favorite watch but nice to have in the collection. It is my only watch with bracelet and I feel it is very well made. It is great for family trip to the beach or vacation I can just take one watch and it covers all places I go- dinner to pool. As for watch being wrapped, I can't believe someone would keep them like that. Sort of takes the fun out. But good for you, now brand new condition !

Let’s not confuse or taint what was a widely enjoyed release a few years ago with the controversy and debate surrounding the Patek pieces. 

But this one, too expensive right now. Many other Rolex watches worth exploring.

You must love the watch the first min you see it, if not your just never gonna use it

These things trade for faaaaar more than they are worth (in many enthusiasts' view), so that would be the first thing to consider. Outside of all context, this is a fabulous watch. But unless you are happy with the price, and don't mind bearing Rolex's reputation of hype and superficiality, then I would stay away. 

this is the best watch to have, when you want every single person in a certain place to look at you!!! coming from Patek where normally no one would notice you unless he is a connaisseur, it is scary with this blue watch! now i am getting more why it is so controversial.... never thought it is as much in your face!

I've loved the look of this watch immediately upon release and before there was that much hype on it. I don't think you can really go wrong. Another one to consider from a value perspective might be the Z-Blue (which I have in the collection). Arguably "better" and not as hyped to a crazy degree.
