Wow!! We need a Time Machine like in the H.G. Wells novel dear Nicolas! I remember my Dad paid 200,- US dollars for the ref 5513 (gilt) Submariner he gifted me in 1966.
By the other hand, a good friend of mine paid less than 250 dollars the following year 1967 in Tiffany & Co. New York for his Daytona.

It had a standard "panda" dial signed with the store name.
To have an idea of what dollars could buy in those far years, a brand new Ford Mustang would cost about 3.000/3.500 US dollars in 1966.
Considering inflation in USA, 200 dollars of 1966 would equal 1.980.- US dollars today if I´m not wrong.
And best of all: you could visit any authorised Rolex dealer in those years and buy a Sub, a GMT or any model you wished on the spot. And you made a good favor to the dealer if you wished a Daytona they probably had had in stock for month without finding a customer interested in it.
Times have changed isn´t it??
Aaah the good old times! It was just normal to buy whatever you wanted whenever and wherever you wanted... All an era.
Ah yes my friend. Good old times! That was a very different and long gone era. It was possible to buy what you wanted anytime, anyplace... and I guess at a more affordable price as well as the present prices...
... are well beyond the inflation rates which affected the dollar for example.
