Rolex

While I had a dinner with some friends, one of them brought with him a very nice early Milgauss, from year 1967, if I am correct.

As per a coincidence, I brought some watches with me, and among them, the Green Milgauss.

And you won't believe me, but I had my camera!



So, here's the beautiful Vintage:







The first surprise is about the weight of the watch, quite heavy for its size...

But you have to remember its special amagnetic construction, and its relative thickness...2 things you also have on the modern Milgauss, which is bigger, thicker, and heavier.

Then, the aesthetics:

What immedately comes to mind is that it is really a special Rolex.

Some will say that it lookqs like a big Air King, I will respectfully ( but strongly ... ) disagree.

I have a lot of affection for the Air King, but the Milgauss is more than one step above.

Bigger, and thicker than an Air King, it has also a different personality, something difficult to put in words...Maybe Class, distinction, discretion and sobriety?

I love a lot the blackened indexes, and these big green hands...A Real tool watch.

On the wrist, it is just perfect, very comfortable, perfectly centered, ...Perfect.

So, it was time to make the comparison pics, and I just realized, when vewng all the pcs took, that only one was qute correct...

It speaks a lot, even f the comparison would have been better between 2 White / Silver dials...



As I previously said, the modern is bigger, thicker, and much heavier.

Of course, the Milgauss, in this green glass version, is exuberant, but even with the normal black dial, it is a world apart.

What is not evident, is to " remake " a watch, re intepret it successfully.

To me, this is the case with the Milgauss.

The original was a toolwatch for Ingenieurs, a kind of Civilian Tool Watch, the new one can be seen with the same eyes, just modernized.

To try to sum my state of mind on them, I would say that the old makes me love the modern, and vice versa.

I must say that my favourite is the first version of the black dialed Milgauss, with silver writings.

A totally different playground, compared to the GMT, Explo or Subs, but not less charming!

for the pictures and comparison. Love that vintage Milgauss, especially that silver dial that gives it an overall stainless look.

For quite sometime, I had been putting off purchasing a Rolex. Was vacillating between the Yachtmaster platinum and the GMT ceramic bezel. I finally made the jump to get a Rolex, the Milgauss Green crystal. It is on order and I wait patiently and expectantly to get a call from my AD. Will post pics when I get it!

I'm fighting hard to not jump on the new GMT with the ceramic bezel, each time I see one in a window shop...

What helps me is that I have some urgent priorities to come soon, so I can't allow me to jump on it for the moment but I will get one, this is certain.

As for the green crystal Milgauss, I was not sure at all when I saw the pics 2 years ago...

But once I tried it on my wrist, it was a revelation, and I went out the shop with it.

This is such a psychedelic watch!

Great comparison and photos. Red tip on the sec hand is a nice touch. Is the vintage a 38mm ?

The Green Milgauss has been tugging at me for some time now.  Just the way it is for you with the GMTIIC

I just have to calm down a bit with watch purchases...

Interesting to see that for some Rolex watches, the evolution is more or less strong...

You can see the " air de famille " between a Vintage Sub and a modern, but here, it is quite different.

Usually I default to the vintage model, but in this case the green Gauss is too nice to be outdone.

 

I think that both are to be owned.

The Vintage for its classic timeless look, the modern Green for its " exuberance "...

for great pictures as usual and comparison between the two . I have the milgauss GV and enjoy its quickiness, but having recently fallen in love with vintage watches would love to hunt for a vintage milgauss, vintage gmt's,subs, seadwellers ........ and on and on.

I would love adding a Vintage Milgauss in my collection, too.

It is difficult to not fall under the charm of these Vintage.

The overdone dial of the GV is perfectly solved by the regular black dial. Now I am more clear on why I chose that one instead. Thanx for posting these great pix.

Well, once you get the Vintage, it is really easier to get the modern.

And, somehow, strangely, the Vintage makes you love the modern, and vice versa..

nice comparison Nicolas !  Are the hands luminous ?  They look very green.

These early Milgaus' (even a 1019) are worth considerable money these days. A very under-estimated model. Usually "unknown" to the big public

But this is a watch I'm discovering, so I'm far from knowing all on it.

They are beginning to make their way in my brain...

Great pictures and a great "mini review" on old versus new.

I used to be only into new watches due to my main focus on the calibers. Thefore have I mainly been focusing on new watches to have all the newest changes to the watch.

After reading your article due I think I better look for an "old" Millgauss... Waow
