Rolex

I had the chance to put a CVD coated Daytona on my wrist last year and I must say that I beleive that's the way Rolex should do the watch.

You do not imagine how many times I did a forum search with the words black daytona, PVD, DLC, CVD...etc.
I think that a lot of people that do not buy them because they do not want to loose the Rolex warranty would go for an official black rolex.
Now the question is : is it in the DNA fom Rolex?, certainly not but other brands did it and with success.
I have been wearing all day and it has been a hard day answering questions about it.

Project X do this type of "modification". I tell you, when i was a kid of about 12, I used to go with my dad to work in one of his shops. It was in Berwick Street in London. There were quite a few sex shops around the area. I ALWAYS used to offer to fetch tean and coffee for the guys that worked in the shop because i could then peep into these naughty shops and look at the pictures in the window. It was naughty.

 

You my friend, have on your wrist a similar naughty temptation!

I'm getting very tempted myself by the 'black selections' that  Bamford, X, and PHunter, are offereing these days.

I love the icons from Rolex and wish mine would have been an authentic Rolex model and not a pimped one...

I love vintage Daytona's, but the modern watches in silvery light colours never appealed to me. This stealthy grey/black version looks great to my eyes, Luc, and I love the dial as well. Legibility looks to be heightened too.

Can you give me more information about the watch? Is there an after-market company offering this 'makeover'? Do they pull the watch apart to achieve the coating and this therefore voids the warranty?

This may have been discussed before and I have missed it, but interested to know the details.

The legibility is good but I almost wish to have the instrument rings matt to even improve it but somewhere you have to stop...
There are quite a few companies I know and certainly many more.
I went for it when I was sure that the AD and the "pimper" would sustitute Rolex in case of any problem.
Rolex does not touch pimped watches, no warranty no repairs and no maintenance.
The new watch, (no pre owned for the majority) is ordered "a la carte". Once they know what you want (or the watch boutique) they will get the watch, take it apart coat it and put it together.
Important is that they have to take apart all the links of the bracelet to ensure no uncoated spots and that is the most time intensive labor.
You can also order a saphire case back, a removal from the crown guard....

I think it is a really beautiful Daytona...makes the watch a little bit understated...if that is ever possible with a Rolex!

SJX's earlier post on Bamford and Sons as well as the upcoming opening of a store in Singapore made me quietly surfed the Bamford's website and even "designed a couple of " piece unique" for myself! It's feels so wrong but yet sooo...exciting!!

If you're been to Singapore or are familiar with the culture in the far east, then you will know the interest Rolex commands to all and sundry...hence a "stealth" Rolex may indeed be the answer...

now I can't sleep.....

I agree with you that the mass do not pay attention any more if your watch does not look like the Rolexes they are use to track...
The other category: the connaisseurs do not live you alone any more...
I am in the Munich airport now and it feels deliciously wrong to have a look inside the rolex shop with that stealth on the wrist...

I wouldnt have done it myself (as I can read a lot of others wouldnt wither). But on the other hand, why not. You are as I know you almost religious to the color black, and as Rolex isnt supporting you with what you like, you will have to look elsewhere.

Its a little the same if people doesnt like there Harley or Audi, Mercedes or BMW, they can always get it styled and changed to there neds and likes.

But anyway. This watch is nice and thankyou for some cool shots

I always have said that I don't like "tuned" watches but I have to say that the choice you've done is terrific and I like very much this Dayto....
Having the terrible doubt for so much time about the fact of buying or not a Dayto, I avoid you gave me a great idea...

Yes, it's not 100% Rolex, but If you like it, don't worry and it's a such nice BLACK idea...

You are correct, if Rolex would have done it , I would have gone for the official one.
You also pointed at the problem, I find myself really limited with the choice of variants while choosing a watch after being spoiled at the personalisation options you have with cars, some watch brands do not even want to sell you a strap from another model if you do not posses it!
