A lot of people know my vices now and I know I do not have to try resisting, I am too weak. So to make a long story short, I paid a visit to my AD and after having a lot of black watches on the table he recorded that he had something else... Now I know that it is not really an authentic move but... I just fell in love and I was never good at controlling me. I tried: I went for my easter break without buying it but then ran to my AD today.

Honestly, I  prefer it in its normal finish, but hey, the most important is that you're very happy with!

As a designer, I like authentic products and brands and I hate opportunists that make money while stealing other peoples work.
I had a "cas de conscience" this week end, this is why I did not buy it on the spot, instead I went for a break driving like a lunatic to the Mont de Ventoux (see my post Easter break in Time Out) but no lavender perfume, fantastic food or v8 engine sound in the gorges de la Nesque managed to wipe this object from my mind.
I was possessed, my darkest side won, Mr Hyde had it all!
I learned to switch off my brains when I fall in love and I had my "passage a l' acte"
No worries : your opinion will always be inspirating for me, you just confirmed the mixed feelings I had.
I bought my first valuable watch less than ten years ago before the launch of the Murcielago , so as a new collector, I need to grow up (impossible but I am trying)
Once again if there is something I am grateful is your honesty ,( we have to meet BTW) there would be no point for me in posting about a new watch in this forum if everybody would be just making vain and superficial compliments.
BTW talking about tea, do you really like this diluted coloured beverage, you are disapointing me ! LOL

As much as I am not one to alter, in any way, any watch, with the possible exception of a different strap now and then, the pimped Rolly is HOT!  My worthless prediction is that it will become a very collectible Rolex.

almost every top manager has a Daytona ... so I did not want to fall... entirely in the picture, just a little bit with a Daytona which is a bit more polarising.
But it sounds as I premeditated this buy.
It is not the case, I went curious to my AD, saw a lot of watches, had almost decided to buy a Zenith... or a Perrelet or two or three more when he showed me the black daytona and I could not focus any more on the other ones...

I agree. I guess i was inferring that for the price of a modified daytona, you are not a million miles away from a nice vintage piece... and if the purpose of a modification is to NOT have something that the average manager has, then a vintage piece would definitely fit that bill.

What I believe , Joe is that going for a vintage shows a certain personal development. It is like oldtimers, you have to love the smell of old leather, the smell of warm oil...
Some people are born with that taste , some acquire it, some will never grow up intellectually to get to that stage.
I believe as well that you have to like the hunting phase, some people just go to the nearest dealer and buy what is there because the just paid manager bonus is burning their pockets and they have to get rid of it on the first week end.
