Rolex

as it was my very first Rolex back in the days when I would go diving with it and would wear it for all types of water sports like water-skiing etc.Most of my buddies had one and it was the quintessential Rolex to have at the time.I wasn't into watches then & it was used fundamentally as a tool watch and would take whatever I dished out.Only later did I acquire other models like the day date,explorer II etc. but the one watch I would like to have back in my possession is that sub, which would be vintage today and would carry all the memories and experiences of my youthful days..

I thought about finding one of a similiar year but it wouldn't be the same so I opted for a new 14060M recently.

Currently, I have taken a liking to the GMTs especially the Pepsi and it would be a close call between the 1675 & the 5513. Best to have both.

Now, that is an important factor!

If I go on this ground, I would say the GMT, as it was my first " serious " watch, the one which introduced me into watches.

And as you, we lived some great and exciting moments.

Aaah, by the way, I did all with my GMT,  surf, skying, even soccer and tennis...

It never left my wrist, well, almost never.

The 1675 + 5513 as opposed to the 1680 Red Submariner. I chose the latter; but I will get to the former As for your question, can I say I am both Submariner plus GMT? And maybe to complicate matters I am also SD, Explorer and Daytona as well. uh oh, now it's confusing - I like 'em all

This is a curious phenomenon I observed, too.

It also depends on the patina of the watch:

Between a beautiful Sub and a too white GMT, I would go on the Sub.

Now, if they have the same patina???

because a look at my own collection, I found more sub than GMT. Well, I have only one GMT....

I guess in this case pictures say more than thousand words....

But, and it is a big BUT, one of my very favorite watches is my only current GMT:

It is very difficult to put in words, but any of these GMTs gives me a smile when I put it on my wrist.

So, I can understand your feeling.

Every time I try to sell one of my Rolex I find I really NEED it! However, my Sub 5513 from 1966 is a must have: the epitome of the Submariner, reduced to the max. And the 6536/1 is perfect and has a military back ground. So it would also have to stay.

My firend you know i'm Sub addicted!

Maybe I would prefer what i've not: big crown 6538/5510 or military 5513/5517

That is a question I ask myself whenever I am about to choose the watch for the day, morning, afternoon, evening, or trip.

It depends in a state of mind, the 1675 is strapped on whenever I dream of travelling to far away lands, or whenever my dear friends from abroad come to mind. The 5513, on the other hand, I relate to simplicity, practicallity, adventure, and even heroism.

In the end, as we so often say, there is no right or wrong, just the fact that I love them both!

GMT is also my first serious watch back several years ago, during my college time. When you look at the sweep second hand, always make you smile.
A special watch for me
I am more GMT because its function is more useful for me when travelling, while I didnt have much water activity back then.

Since then, I try to get more Rolex for every achievement in my life.
 My last addition is Sub LV,

Professionally I use the GMT "complication" every day.

Normally, I travel with a GMT but I'm becoming a fan of alarm watches (bad influence from here?).

Of course, a 1675 and a 16710 are a good pair:



The pic does not show but the 1675 has a great faded bezel insert.

About my comment, the IIC (ceramic bezel) is not for me. The so called "super case" distorted the original, and perfect, proportions and ruined the watch.

I had one, tried every possible strap combination but ... no way.

The patina on your 1675 is really impressive.

I know what you mean about the new GMT II C.

More a luxury watch, less a toolwatch.

It took me a long time to appreciate it for what it is, indeed.

Although, I'm disturbed by the size of the bracelet, which looks ridiculously narrow, compared to the case, I learnt to appreciate this watch.

But I'm in a thematic logic, so I would also have to go for the 16710 / 700 / 760.
