I never was a vintage fan nor a Rolex one, but the more I discover what is extraordinary about these watches the more I start to think that one day in my collection I'll have an old (and authentic) Daytona or Diving watch. For sure it will take time ...

One thing is sure is that it really seems to be a "parcours du combattant" where knowledge is compulsory.

I never saw the dial you have here and I imagine it must be even more fantastic in real !

I thought they would be something like Paul Newman Daytona, Milsubs or even double red sea dweller

But of course I'm sure you have your own reason why you love them.. Which is , of course, what matters the most

The Big Crowns are the mothers of all the Subs.

The GMT is an iconic Vintage Rolex, in my point view, as much as the Sub is.

And the Explo is so under rated, when we think " Vintage Rolex ", that I feel the need, and thr willing to mention it here.

But you're right, others may have a different list, which is equally à  propos.

but just to say I (and I'm sure plenty of us) have been though this, and feel for you and your family.

my last boarder collie had to be put to sleep on 31st Dec, 2008. Not the best start for a new year. I already had the next one at 10weeks and starting to train her, which kind of made it easier (something to focus on), and in the end the only real comfort was the fact that he was 15, had suffered no major illnesses, and had only really slowed right down in the previous 6 months. He'd had a good life, and was then, just tired.

Which was the most important for my wife and me, is that my dog  passed without any suffer.... In the " optimal " conditions.

Now, it is our pain, but we have to be convinced that we did, for my dog, the good thing, we took the best decision, for the dog., hence, for us.

But go and explain that to a 6 years old daughter...

Somehow, when browsing around during my vacation, and touching upon other fora,
I read this post & thread about this Rolex- grail of yours:
- Mesmerizing, but also .. Touching !!

- although owning some appreciated daily beaters on the low-end scale ( Date, Datejust & a simple Explo), and having seen
some remarkable stuff on a certain occasion, thanks to kind company:
- GMT's next to the Vintage Subs always were special animals to me: admired from the distance, but too specific for me, to not
make a mistake..

The more, I'd like to sincerely congratulate you , on what is - recognizable even to a greener Padawan than for my JLC terroir - a magnificent, Rolex Vintage piece, obviously a legend, a piece to hold and cherish ..

The next paragraph I'm kind of reluctant to mention, but decided to do so, hope you won't mind:
-- On a very personal note, also realized the very moving parts and thread-interactions, due to the recent family-dog loss,
which sadly occurred -
- the story with the 'river' ( by Renė) was a special one, comforting hopefully- and showed to me also, that a community might exhibit additional healing wishes and power, this by warmth , friendship & compassion.

Without further ado, (and in addition to the PM's) I re-take the full-hearted effort to express my/ our compassion - let the
time, family and your watch passion be to your consolation !
- (We frequently talked about you and your lovely family and felt quite near, having had similar just three years ago !)

This wonderful, so much sought after, 6542 should hopefully help you in that, my friend and ignite your joys.

There always will be a kind of 'River' for someone as kind and passionate as yourself.
(Hope, I did not re-iterate too much on emotional sensible spots, but just wanted to very kindly express all that,
in sincere friendship).

The 6542 is one of the waches I took with me, during these holidays...

I will certainly  fully appreciate it later. For the moment, I feel a great satisfaction to have closed the deal on this superb specimen.
