Is Rolex past interesting product design, of course, it is the production number is few and far between...

The mystery is always there.  It is however a strange configuration on a 16750.  But we know the only born with where military issue early 1970 some most of the watches with that blues insert seem to be in that period to match the original military configuration.  So period correct is the best one can do unless as noted a military connection

Represents daytime hours.

Than perhaps the blue dial is aimed towards those who live in the very far north of the world, were during the summer, daylight hours are virtually 24 hours!!

It was made for the Oman Marine Ministry in the 1970's so it may have some significance when to comes to visibility in the desert.  But it was most likely senior level people that would have these watches.

The military aspect and the watches made for the Oman Military with the Omani crest is generally accepted as the origins of the all blue dial.  With the story continuing in the Rolex service departs and Cartier for excess blue inserts.

What is your understanding of the origins of the Blue insert.

PS UAE  may who we typically refer to Oman seems plausible  -  I will check with of the Emirates as there are may logos. 

English Army, for example, was one " infiormation ".

No military at all was another information.

I really don't know what to think about these blue inserts...

The Mondani book GMT if it is of an reference on page 156 with the red hand and 158 with standard big hand it also support the Oman theory.

But this is not the bible a we know many things are possible.

We just know the rough time of the inserts and the fact they are limited in quantity.

As I  am not sure the blue insert goes on a 16750, either...

In the Mondani book, there is a blue insert ona 1675 from 1978, with no link with military provenance...

All this is very contradictory.

I will agree with you for sure no hard facts support any one theory.

I will say that the blue dial was not offered in any factory configuration.  I must have been some special order for who, what military etc don't know but rumor has there was some surplus.

For me the blue dial look great especially with the red hand.  It as custom configuration that could be between 1968-1975 MK1-MKII  more likely the later.  So it is very hard to pin this one down.

I am in the hunt.

Sorry I don't have anything more concrete but all original to the 1675 of some "special" configuration.

Rolex service center said: 16750 Case No. (blue bezel) within their companies can check to find, not every only 16750 can be switched to the blue bezel, in addition to your watch raw data is the configuration.

Purchase it I was very doubt, but the Rolex service center to the recipient, you have to go through the internally confirmed without any problems before service and maintenance.

Only Ref.16750 blue bezel, I have to Rolex service center maintenance completed, they said to me: The configuration of this type is very rare, compared to of Ref.1675 the blue bezel watch....

The watch I have been to Taiwan Rolex service center maintenance, and indeed they have a query whether it is correct blue bezel; the last Rolex company's Reply: No problem, this is the original watch.

I believe it is very rare, the number of production it is less than the of Ref.1675 blue bezel....

Providing a more plausible reason.

I can't find any solid Military link that I can corroborate.

 We do know that the Service centers did have this blue inserts available. Not sure who qualified to get them but it was a very small quantity and was not installed on any New production models.  There was no part number for the blue insert.

Still searching.

All I can say is they are highly sought after by collectors and cost more that the watch 1675 they are placed on.  But collectors have a need to find unique features to enjoy where scarcity creates the prestige.  Unfortunately I am one.
