When you say No Crown Guards, Submariner, you always think about Rolex, the 6204, 6205, 6536, and 5508.

But there is another Submariner we almost never mention: The Tudor 7922.

This Reference had the particularity to come with a small crown and with a big crown.

In both cases, this reference is super rare, and even in pictures!

Let me show you one very nice specimen...

Dark Brown and correct dial, superb case with the bevels still present, Cal 390 ( as it has to be ) and a specificity:

The serial number and the reference numbers are both engraved on the case back, not inside nor between the lugs.

Cooler, the 7922 BC which has 2 Refs engraved inside the case back bears a crossed out 6538 mention and the Ref 7922, under.

But we are here to speak about the small no crownguard 7922.

You will find the nice set of gilt hands, with the lollipop second hand, whoch works very well with the dark brown chocolate dial and the gilt writings.





You will see that on the small crown, the dial is bearing the mention 100 meters / 330 Feet, while it is the double on the Big Crowns.

Same parallel with the Rolex Small and Big Crowns, by the way.

To be compared with the " Crowned " Sister, the Rolex 5508.

Two, for the price of one...





Which one do you prefer?

Let's say that, given the rarity of the beast, the 5508 will be an easier choice.

Now, a close up of the case back, mentionning the reference and the serial number, which is unique to this Submariner:



And, to end in beauty, a photo of the movement, the Cal 390 you also find in the 7922 / 7924 Big Crowns and in the 7928.



It is the third time I see a 7922 " Small Crown ", and only two came with the correct configuration.

But this one is just outstanding, because of the condition of its case, and its beautifully patined dial.

I love them all, and although I'd love a 5508, there is something about the 7922 face that I love - and thats the subtle way all the writing and Tudor rose always appear nicely 'faded' (if thats the correct word). More descreet, just waiting to be noticed by the purists!

That is a very special model you have.

And I'd never thought about the connection of the small/large crown 100m/200m connection before - thanks for that extra piece of education!!

(I've been quiet recently - after trip to Le Mans 24hr, I had business in Houston and Qatar, just getting back into normal life now, and catching up with the Purists posts!!)

Love the passed  writings, more discrete than what we usually see on Submariners.
