... Hello friends!  I wish to share this new addition to my collection.

After a previous fracass with a 6610 I found a few months ago, which I had to return to the seller, I was with my sight after a new example with better luck this time. Of course, I promised myself to be more cautious, and to study more about this subject, as well as view all photographs of this model published in this forum to learn about the details of this model.

Then, I was lucky a few weeks ago, to find this example, bought from the nephew of original owner, in a city about 1700 kilometers north of my home town.

Examining the watch in my hand, I could view that unfortunately, the hands (including the lollipop seconds hand) were relumed, but otherwise, the watch and its movement is completely original and working so well. The dial shows a nice patina on its surface, and tritum indexes are original and complete, as well as the nice gilt inscriptions.

The watch came with the original box, including the usual printed card suggesting to discard both the card and the watch support in order to transform the green box in a cigarette box!

Other papers included, were the original COSC certificate, dated December 29 1956, and the original Warranty card with signature of Mr,. Wildsdorf and the local AD stamped in October 14th 1957, the date of selling to original owner.

Also included, were a couple of warranties issued by our local Rolex service facilities, after the services given to the watch.

I feel that if I can find a nice set of original period hands, this watch will became the Explorer I was needing in my collection, to accompany my previous 1016 with gloss/gilt dial I reviewed some time ago.

And congrats! It looks the business to me even with my untrained eye and with all the paper work to go with it, it's an incredible find! ( The hands don't bother me personally).

Seriously, about your hands, I would re relume thelm, in a mlore matching tone. You're right, the lume is ugly, while the hands are superb, and correct, too.

That is a superb catch, and the whole set is the cherry on the cake.

... I have been observing this watch carefuly in sunlight, and hands seems to be the originals.

Now, I suspect that the relume could be done by the local Rolex Service in one of its many services the original owner sent this timepiece.
Otherwise, they look gilt and originals. I feel best thing to do is to relume by a good watchmaker, trying to match the color of the indexes tritum. This is a good project for a near future.

I didn´t take note of the inscriptions inside back. I´m going to ask my watchmaker to open it again this week, and will tell you.

I´m very happy to know you like this example. Sending you a PM later, when arrive home, with serial numbers. Curiously, serail number is around three hundred far from the previous 6610 I got some months ago!

...and, frankly, i do not feel the need to replace or relume the hands...are quite matchy to my eyes...

... Yes, now that I have been reading our friend´s comments, I guess the better step is to keep these hands, which seem to be the originals, and try to relume them matching the color of tritum indexes. Of course, it is a lovely touch to have it with the lollipop hand!

the case ane riveted bracelet look very nice as well.  I love these lollipop second hands!  these early explorers are superb, just too small for me!

Regarding size, I´m rather acustomed to 36 mm diameter watches, so it doesn´t bother me, but I can understand that given the present trend to bigger watches, this one looks a bit small. By some reason, the 6610 looks smaller than the 1016 I own, in spite of being 36 mm diameter both.

I also feel that the strong personality of the classic Explorer, counterweights its smaller diameter case, and gets a nice presence on the wrist.

but why change the hands..?  You've got an example which you know is as authentic as it gets, with all papers and a known history so why change that..?
