Rolex

So, it is now three weeks since i took ownership of this modern Rolex GMT. And with the exception of one day, it has been on my wrist.....day and night. I am someone who enjoys diversity a lot. I tend to change my watch each day. Sometimes a watch will stay on my wrist for 3-4 days, but I love diversity and switch around a lot. For this modern GMT fro have stayed on my wrist for three weeks is very unusual. Now, I know there is always a novelty factor when getting a new watch that can lead to it staying on the wrist in the early days of ownership. But I rarely fall into that group. 

The blue/black bezel is exactly what I had hoped for.

In some lights the blue and black merge together, yet in other lights, the blue really jumps out.

.....in the scheme of things, the bracelet is not a big deal. I may have a NOS one that I can replace it with!!

The experience is so often the most helpful for me when contemplating a watch purchase, and this has helped immensely. I do agree with you on the shiny bits on the bracelet, and if anything, is still the one thing that's holding me back from adding this to my collection, and it takes a lot to convince me when it comes to these modern Rolexes, so that says a lot. 

What you think about the "Zoomed" case and lugs, when compared with the previous versions?

.....reality is simply that it actually works well.... it synthesises with great ease.

I had one ceramic GMT and I let it go because it was not as comfortable as the vintage on my meager wrist.

......i have small wrists too....and how a watch sits on the wrist can ruin a watch for me. Not once have i looked at it and thought..."Uhhm, those lugs are too big". When i said that it synthesised well, i guess what I meant was that its features merge together well...so even though ...yes.... the 1675 feels so much smaller on the wrist, the modern doesn't "feel" large.

Great idea to have put the two side by side, Joe. We can realize how big and large are the lugs on the modern.

....and i mean that in a comprehensive way. Just like the GV is so different to the 1019....those two Milgauss are just DIFFERENT watches with completely different objectives. Same is true for this modern GMT.... it is wrong, I think, to compare it with the vintage....1675 and certainly wrong to compare with 6542..... this modern GMT is aiming at something quite different. 

The depth of the ceramic bezel. Which reminds me the depth and wamrth of the 6542 bakelite bezel.

For the rest, yes, totally different watches.

I was wondering how would you compare that with the original and classic all black ceramic bezel GMT2?

do you think the new black/blue bezel made all the difference ?

Can't deny that the GMT2-C is a superbly made watch.

And there are many reasons to love this one. A GMT, a friendly complication, plus its unusal combination of colors.

As for the bracelet, I totally agree with you. All brushed would be better.

Man, I have to fond my modern GMT!

.....the font on the bezel is really apropos for the GMT. When there is something about a watch that nags at me, i tend to find that the "issue" is the only thing i see. I am drawn to what i see as the fault. With this GMT, there is no basic fault for me....the bracelet (which will become all-brushed steel today!) is the only thing. The lugs, the font, the lume .... it all combines into a synthesis that is just apropos for a modern GMT.

Good to hear the font is appropriate. And congrats on your upcoming all brushed bracelet!  Am sure that will make the watch perfect in your eyes! 

... You are right when you say that a new watch usually brings the desire to wear it for a long period of time even if our usual custom is to change every two or three days for a different one in our collection.

Anyway, it has been my experience that, if you still keep the desire for more than ten days, then the new watch has "something else" in it. That is a very special watch!

I like the ceramic version of the GMT a lot.
But I am still waiting for a red and blue ceramic bezel to take the plunge.

Your reports and enthusiasm for your blue/black version has been very inspiring to me, and led me to take a personal look at a local AD. I loved it! ... but I guess I still will wait for the red and blue (or red and black for that matter).
I´m pretty sure Rolex will release it sooner or later.

I also think that Rolex shouldn´t  have the polished central links in the bracelets of their present line of sport-tool watches. I still prefer the satin finish in these watches.

.....its always a tricky issue buying a brand new watch. To be fair, I had tried this one on over the course of last year on at least two occasions...so i had at least had it on my wrist. But giving it a really long trial...3 weeks....yes, that has confirmed a good decision

I specifically am very happy with her sitting on my wrist
and also the play of colors depending on light and reflections.

Also I very much like her " under-the-radar" appeal on first sight

The one thing , that I had get used too,a bit, is the less visible GMT- hand
on its "shaft"; one simply looks more on the triangle , which has a great visibility

Which brings me to the last point, the color of the lume: as you so rightly
have pointed out, in your first, general review - its more bluish cool glow.. Like that very much
apart from the expectable great visibility at night

The interpretation of your last sentence is different a bit for me:
1/ am I happy - Very !!
2/ I love her.. A lot, already after these few weeks confirming my first impulses
3/ Do I prefer her as a modern Rolex vs my Milgauss GV ( funny - same question, as for you) - Yes
4/ Will I replace my GV or even let her go - NO way,

- Why ? - For me the GV is a totally different watch, remaining a keeper ..
