Rolex

I am not sure if it is because I subconsciously connect this watch with the summer and all that brings, or not, but it is getting more and more wrist-time from me. This is a watch that I never truly loved when i bought it....however.....it is also one of those rare watches that just continues to grow on you. Now, i love it. As time has passed, it has taken wrist-time for me to appreciate how enjoyable this watch is and how important it is for my collection. 

It is not like any other Rolex reference. It is distinctly un-Rolex in its general design. The orange hand, of course, adds to its "flavour." In my mind, I definitely associate it with the summer. ... about the Explorer II.

Also It happened exactly the same with my relation with this fine watch.

I owe the discovery of this reference to our friend Nicolas. It was after reading his passionate post about the Explorer II a few years ago, that I opened my eyes to this model to which I had never paid attention before.

As it has been said, this is the "unRolex Rolex" though in the final instance you discover the DNA of the brand. It is now one of my favorite watches, a joy to have on the wrist.

......as to be honest it took about 2 years before i started to grow to love it....many times in fact i looked to sell it....BUT, every time i looked to sell it, my wife would tell me that she didn't care less if i sold ant of the other Rolex, but this Explorer II was the only one she liked. And again and again, she will compliment it when she sees it.

It doesn't have the appeal of the Sub or GMt....yet for those who own it, there is a strong bond.

of smooth bezel that is narrow relative to the case width, no cyclops, no date at all, the choice of minute indices, the general low profile, it does not have all the rolex cues for me.  Even the rolex crown and name somehow recede.  You have a point about the 3 6 9, but they don't scream rolex to me for some reason, and I love the font they used in the original 1016.

......on the wrist they just don't look like the standard Rolex
