What I don't quite get is, whether the blue - apart from the MN of '81 is
another model/ year ( guess so)?- on that line, Tudor might have opted to present
the current one just with the color options to chose from.
Which brings us back to the running Q, how close a "recreation" or "Tribute" piece
would/should resemble the original(s), rather than re- interpret design components or
optical signals..
Not an easy game, that these "heritage" offers exhibit some DNA, but still be
seen as a new species..

and learn about the Tudor line(s) and their in part parallel evolution;
- thereby I have to say, often I'm pretty impressed by the Vintage samples,
which share lots of DNA with the Rolex Subs, but with a different touch..
- Up to now, for me there is still lots to learn & look at friendly samples,
& also to digest the historical intertwinings..

Tudor Black Bay pictures and thoughts.
If you had in mind this one...
Then, the Black Bay could well not be for you.
It is a bit Tudor's fault, as they communicated a lot on the heritage, like on this ad showing the Black Bay and its ancester, the Tudor 7922, but, curiously, the small no crownguard version, instead of the big crown...
The Black Bay is not a strict and faithful re edition. The 7922 and 7924 lovers will be shocked by the circled indexes and the snowflake hour hand, which both correspond to another era, and which were not associated in the same Watch, by the way.
As a reminder, here is a Tudor Snowflake, from 1981, and for the Marine Nationale:
As you can see, there is no association between round indexes and snowflake hour hand.
Now, remove the 7922 / 7924 from your mind... Forget it.
What do you see, now?
A strong, bestial but very cool watch.
That is the spirit of the 7922 / 7924, but in a modern way.
Is everything perfect? I would prefer not seeing the red seal between the case and the crown, yes.
And a thinner case, maybe a tad smaller, too.
The faux patina and the red insert don't disturb me, as I find these détails contribute to the coolness of the watch, they add some warmth and life to it.
Those who don't like the faux patina always have the Blue Bay, with its blue insert and the white indexes, but I find it, personally, a bit cold.
Yes, I am convinced, now that I forgot the link between this one and the 7922 / 7924.
I will certainly add one in my " collection ".

Hello dear Nicolas! Completely agree with your thoughts...
... this "homage" or recreation launched by Tudor some time ago has some of the ADN features of the watches which inspired the designers, but must be judged alone and without comparisons to really appreciate it.
The charm and the exact dimensional balance of the "originals" you show, are completely out of the present scheme, not only in this Tudor but in most of the present made recreations of this and other watch brands. (May be the Longines Heritage Diver and the Omega Moonwatch are the only ones to be really faithfully dimensionaly to their predecesors)
Not to mention the charm of patina and other signs of passing time a vintage watch offers to the collector of classic watches.
These wonderful vintage classic watches play in their own league, and I regret to say, are inimitable.
Again, this watch has to be judged alone. I agree too, that the red washer in the crown is something I don´t like and can´t explain why it is there.
Also, I would preferred a less thick case, which I feel could be done without problem. As a matter of fact, the Ranger is a thinner cased watch.
I personally prefer this "gilt" version with its brownish red bezel to the new version in blue. I feel this one is warmer and closer rendition to the past of these Subs.
Not to say I don´t like the blue, just a personal preference! The blue has a cooler character, may be more formal and elegant if we can say this of a sport divers watch, but an interesting option for those not completely convinced of the stridence of the gilt one shown here.
I´m happy to know that handling my own example and taking these breathtaking pictures of it has convinced you that one should belong to your collection. What a better cumpliment can this watch receive?

That is it. 100% agreed. Like you I was hesitating a lot with the Blue...
But the Red has a warmth which appealed me more...
If all goes well, maybe at the end of this year?

this black bay could be seen as a kind of biological evolution...(a darwin concept applied to watches)
on of my friend recently bought one, on the wrist it's like an anvil (as we say in french) a riveted bracelet could have slimming effect on the watch (and by so doing you are far ahead the darwin concept) 
I´m sure Mr. Darwin would have agreed to apply his own...
... theory to the Tudor Sub evolution! Lol!
I agree that the BB is unnecesary thick and lacks the grace of its predecesors, but... well... in spite of this I love mine as is and to disminish its weight and "heavy looks" prefer to wear it on a set of leather straps.
Mine are the original "fake vintage" supplied with the watch, buy look forward to install a set or brown cordovan in it. Regrettable during my recent visit to ABP they didn´t have them in stock!

A watch with good roots...
and yet not a copy. It is hard to toe the line between new and old, but the Black Bay does it splendidly. I can appreciate the red ring around the crown tube, a small hint of the modernity of the watch seen only at a second glance. A fine choice, Nicolas.

Okay, assuming that's not possible, on to the more modern one which was the subject of your post.
I agree with most of your thoughts on this one. Tudor did a very nice job of mixing and matching here, and judged as an independent timepiece, I think the watch works quite well. I too wish the case were a bit slimmer, but overall, this is one I have kicked around of late and may one day add to the stable.
In many ways, this watch would seem to be the one that brought modern Tudor "back" as a brand worth considering. IMHO their efforts for years had been somewhat uninspiring in light of their impressive past, but the Black Bay represented a return to their roots and what they do well.
Look forward to seeing yours once you obtain one.

I think every solution is ok till you don't touch to a certain harmony.
In the case of the Black Bay, the red ring between the case and the crown was not really necesary, unless I miss something and that Tudor wanted to play it ala Blancpain, with some of their vintage FF whch had a visible seal at the same place, but I doubt it, since Tudor And Roelx were the only ones, at that time to have the screw in crown, so no need for a seal....
No, indeed, we should not go for a comparison, at the moment of the choice. Now, I have to say that I would be pretty happy to have the Black Bay along with the 7924!
