A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across a quietly released Carrera Heuer 01 Limited Edition that TAG Heuer had created for their Las Vegas boutique. The announcement was so quiet that the Press Release wasn’t even available on TAG Heuer’s Press Site. This was indeed a very low-key release that was published recently on PuristSPro at:
As I often proclaim myself the biggest fan of the Heuer 01, I was certainly intrigued by this LE. When the Carrera Heuer 01 was released barely two years ago, its modular case design was, in part, created to allow different variations of colors and case materials. TAG Heuer has since created many varieties of the 01, but only a handful were available as themed Limited Editions. In my estimation, there have only been about a half dozen or so themed LE Carrera Heuer 01s to date.
The Las Vegas Heuer 01s were officially launched at the boutique, but I actually came across them while perusing TAG Heuer’s online store. I reached out to the brand and they generously provided both models to PuristSPro for review.

While most of us are by now familiar with the specifications of the Carrera Heuer 01, for this review, I will focus on what make these Limited editions unique.

A couple of things make the Las Vegas editions singular among the multitude of Heuer 01’s currently available. First is that there are two distinct versions, one with a diamond encrusted bezel and the other in ceramic.

Second, these limited editions are available in very small numbers that should certainly appeal to TAG Heuer collectors. The ceramic version is limited to 77 pieces, while only nine, (you read that correctly) were made with diamond bezels. Interestingly, the later is marked “0 of 7”, “00 of 7,” then “1 of 7” through “7 of 7.” Numbers “0” and “00” correspond to the numbers of the roulette wheel. So while it first appears there are only 7 of this edition, there are actually 9.

The roulette wheel theme is prominent inside the bezels of both pieces - a theme that is also carried over to crystal case back. While the spark of green at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions may seem out-of-place at first glance, recognizing the roulette wheel theme drives home the design and suddenly, it all makes sense.

I’ve always loved Las Vegas, having travelled there countless times since I was a child. The implementation of the Las Vegas theme is quite appropriate. It compliments the design of the Heuer 01 without overshadowing or competing with it.

The Las Vegas Heuer 01s come boxed in nicely themed TAG Heuer boxes, covered in an alligator print similar to the molded rubber straps of both watches.

When I first saw this watch online, I found it perfect for representing Las Vegas, but for my taste, I wasn’t sure about the 1.69 carats of diamonds. I initially preferred the ceramic bezel.
When I tried on the diamond clad Heuer 01, however, my opinion completely changed. The 64 tiny black diamonds looked great on the wrist. Unlike many diamond studded watches, this piece remained elegant, if not relatively understated, not “blingy,” as one might expect. Still, if the diamonds are too much for your taste, the ceramic version might be a more conservative alternative, and a bit more “attainable.”
TAG Heuer did an excellent job in translating the energy and excitement of Las Vegas into a pair of watches that are pleasantly tasteful, if not sublime. For a release that caught me completely by surprise, I am equally (and painfully) surprised at how much I genuinely like it. In fact, of all the TAG Heuer watches I’ve reviewed over the years, the diamond bezel Heuer 01 Las Vegas was the most difficult to part with as I returned the review pieces to the brand.
Perahaps before they’re gone, lady luck will smile upon me and I’ll add one to my growing collection of Heuer 01s. Stay tuned!
