Hublot

Hi,

I've known Mr. Biver for many years, and have consistently voted for him as Executive of the Year in the various publications and awards I am on the committee of.

I was there in Singapore when he announced, at Michael Tay's house, "Lightening will strike again!' and you know what? He was right, yet again.

Over the intervening years, I've watched Hublot grow into a powerhouse brand, and its horological legitimacy grow deeper and wider. Today, it is certainly more than just a styling exercise!

I'm attracted to some of the designs, but so far, it just hasn't "gelled" for me yet.

Those of you that do get it, help me understand - what is it about Hublot - the brand; the watches - that attract you so much!

Not that I dislike their watches, I have often had the impulse to buy one. But what has stopped me is the fact that I do feel the affection for any particular timepiece will not endure very long. In addition, I feel no impulse at all to buy a watch with a sports personality, football club etc name attached. More likely to buy without the name. Would like also to hear from owners how they feel, and if they continue to love their watches year after year.

As your name implies, the impulse evoked by Hublot is the thing.

 

Even olde Hublot under Crocco had evocative designs that attracted the jet-set and royalty.

A famous royal Audemars Piguet fan also bought Hublot watches for himself and family.

A fair proportion of the crowned heads of Europe wore Hublot; I guess it helped that most of them are related in some way. They kept their watch trends  "in the family" too.

Although it may seem gimmicky sometimes, their pursuit for the innovative new material is amazing.  They also offer various sizes for various tastes and various style for various occasions.  These are what attract me most.

I didn't know what attracted me to Hublot. I just wanted one all of the sudden, so I bought my 1st used Hublot (a LE BBK all black). Since then, I have been glued to Hublot, I got 2 more (a BB and KP), and nowadays I only wear Hublot as my other watches don't get any wrist time.

I didn't really read about JCB then, so I can't say I bought Hublot because of his personality as how many people got intersted in the brand. Perhaps the design and concept of fusion, etc. just got to me without me realizing it. 

I agree they overdo the LE but hey, they sell very well so no point for them not to do it as Hublot is a company doing business to make money. Now, I look as JCB as someone who doesn't want to be dictated by any idea but he creates his own path. That I admire, and it shows in his watches like Hublot's association with basketball, football, etc while the other brands go to tennis, golf & racing ( but Hublot got F1 & Ferrari now), for ex. Simply put, Hublot dares to be different

I admit my 3rd KP is Man Utd KP... Love the design, love the grass on the dial and I like Man Utd though not too crazy.
My 4th Hublot hopefully comes in both red ceramic and unico mov't :p Drooling here...

They were the real brand pushing into real fusion and creation of new materials all being pushed by the whirlwind energy  of JCB.  They really stood out and customer service was number 1 in the industry, personalised and efficient.

IMHO one should not build a collection ‘only’
with traditional/acclaimed pieces that supposedly keep their market value and the same amount of
wrist time over the years. Enjoying watches is also about fun, design and innovation.
And many Hublot models deliver in this category. I agree with Spellbound and do
not like the models named after celebrities either. But some of the regular
models are really cool for their designs, innovative materials and style. Even
for people who prefer the more traditional ‘haute horlogerie’ brands, I believe
it is somehow refreshing to wear a watch like Hublot sometimes (in any event,
like it or not, it is indisputable that the Big Bang has already become an icon in the
industry). If you anticipate the watch will remain interesting to you for at
least some years, I would go ahead and pull the trigger – it does ‘not’ always need to
be a watch you want on your wrist for decades. Carpe diem J

I'd agree with most of the above  -

Whilst I think a BB could be an everyday watch for many people who don't want a JLC/Rolex etc. but something a little different, these will always be the "free-thinkers" who are not concerned with watch brand prestige but can afford the price and are happy to not wear the same as everyone else.

To me they are interesting because they are different - for sure they are not a Rolex, but as a watch enthusiast they add to my "wardrobe" of watches. It is for that reason I chose the KP as it ensures a bigger gap from my other watches than I think a BB would.

The level of detailing makes them something to apperciate & the use of materials makes them more durable & well thought out than one might expect.

I have no idea if in 20 years a BB or KP will be viewed as a classic like a Rolex DJ but I am wearing it now and it appeals to me.
