Thank goodness . . .

 

. . . for business trips!  My first vintage Grand Seiko (and second altogether) was delivered in person yesterday . . . 












. . . by our Seiko sensei on a visit to our shores.  Mid-'70s GS 56, which I discovered on this forum last year.  Apparently very few made, and likely available only in Japan, as Grand Seikos were rarely exported during their initial run decades ago.  This example was sourced in Japan, and restored by none other than Ohira-san.

The design is very much in accord with my tastes, and there were many factors that led to its acquisition.  Foremost, though, is the textured blended-tone dial . . . 




. . . that's a wonder to behold.  Color and character change with just a slight change in orientation.
